This study investigates the use of TiCl vapor phase infiltration (VPI) to cleave ester groups in the main chain of a polymer and drive depolymerization and film etching. Prior investigations have demonstrated that the infiltration of TiCl into PMMA results in dealkylation of its ester bond, cleaving its side groups. This study investigates the VPI of TiCl into poly(lactic acid), which is a prototypical polymer with an ester group in its main chain.

Article Synopsis
  • Adult-onset aqueductal stenosis (AOAS) is a rare cause of hydrocephalus in adults, and its understanding, especially in Africa, is limited—this study focused on its presentation and outcomes in Nigeria from 2008 to 2023.* -
  • The research included 8 patients (7 males, 1 female) aged 18 to 50, primarily presenting with headaches and visual problems, with some experiencing additional symptoms like cognitive deficits and cerebrospinal fluid leaks.* -
  • Ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery was performed on most patients, leading to favorable outcomes, highlighting the importance of diagnosing AOAS early to prevent severe complications like vision loss.*

is a species found in the Cerrado and used in folk medicine as a vermifuge and in the treatment of poisonous snakebites accidents. In this work, we identified the main secondary metabolites present in ethanolic extracts of the leaves (ELSR) and roots (ERSR) of and evaluated the potential cytoprotective effect against cellular macromolecular damage, as well as the cytotoxic properties of the extracts on the K562 and Jurkat leukemic cell lines. The identification of metabolites was carried out by liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.

Objectives: Exploring (1) pre-exercise and acute movement-evoked pain (AMEP) during an outdoor walking program in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA); and (2) comparing baseline physical performance and AMEP flares initiated by walking between participants with either a higher or lower attendance rate.

Methods: Individuals with knee OA were prescribed a 24-week walking program, including one unsupervised walk and two supervised walk classes per week. Participants self-reported knee pain on a numerical rating scale (NRS; 0-10) before and after each supervised class.
