The review is devoted to diagnosis and treatment of internal carotid artery tortuosity. The authors consider modern classification, epidemiology and diagnostic options using neuroimaging or ultrasound-assisted functional stress tests depending on medical history and complaints. In addition to standard Doppler ultrasound, rotational and orthostatic tests are advisable due to possible changes of local shape and hemodynamic parameters following body position changes, especially in patients with concomitant atherosclerotic stenosis.

Sixty-three newborns aged 4 +/- 1 days with hypoconjugation icterus and bilirubinemia of 313 to 524 mumoles/liter, prematurity of the I-II degree, birth injuries to the CNS, hypothyrosis, maternal diabetes mellitus, and threatened encephalopathy were examined. The authors analyse the results of surgical treatment in 105 elderly and old-aged patients who were admitted to the clinic for acute cholecystitis and concomitant diabetes mellitus of various severity. The results of clinical, biochemical, morphological, and cytochemical (salkaline phosphatase of neutrophilic leukocytes, HCT test, myeloperoxidase) studies revealed "the syndrome of mutual aggravation" of the pathological process. The authors conclude that an early (during the first 3 days after the onset of the disease and the severity of the "syndrome of mutual aggravation") operative intervention must be undertaken on this category of patients.

The effect of hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) on blood osmolality has been studied in children with abdominal pathology. It has been shown that HBO has a considerable effect on blood osmolality evident both during and after the HBO session. To prevent possible HBO-induced disturbances of blood osmolality special pretreatment with ten infusion solutions has been suggested.
