Periodontal Diseases in Adult and Elderly Nigerians: A National Survey.

Background: Periodontitis has been shown to have links with general health and increase the risk of complications of some systemic diseases now showing a rising prevalence with age. The rising proportion of the elderly globally, and a high prevalence of periodontal disease among older adults may significantly impact the need for oral health care services in the near future. This national survey was carried out to highlight the trend of periodontal diseases among adult and elderly Nigerians and make evidence-based recommendations for good management outcomes.

Determinants of child survival practice among caregivers in internally displaced persons' camps in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Nigeria.

Background: Child survival remains a major public health challenge in the sub-Saharan region of Africa, especially Nigeria. The Boko Haram crisis, which has aggravated this, has led to the displacement of many people in the north-eastern region, including children under five. This study investigated the determinants of child survival practice among caregivers in internally displaced persons' (IDP) camps in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Nigeria.

Effect of manuka honey socket dressing on postoperative sequelae and complications following third molar extraction: A randomized controlled study.

To evaluate the effect of manuka honey on the healing of mandibular third molar extraction sockets. This was a prospective randomized study at a tertiary health institution in Lagos, Nigeria. All extractions were transalveolar, using the distobuccal bone guttering technique.

Alkaline Phosphatase Profile of Patients with Fibro-Osseous Lesions.

Introduction: Although some studies on craniofacial fibro-osseous lesions have assayed serum alkaline phosphatase levels of affected patients, the findings of these reports are often inconclusive. The aim of this study was to determine the association between the serum ALP levels of individuals with craniofacial fibro-osseous lesions (CFOLs) and treatment outcome.

Materials And Methods: Consecutive patients who presented at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria from May, 2016 to December, 2017 with lesions histologically diagnosed as CFOLs.

Giant Aggressive Odontogenic Fibroma in a 15-month-old Female: Case Report and Review of Literature.

Introduction: Odontogenic fibroma (OF) is a rare benign tumor of mesenchymal odontogenic tissue with variable global incidence. Two variants comprising extraosseous /peripheral (POF) and intraosseous /central (COF) have been identified based on the anatomical origin of the tumor. OF isslow growing, and often asymptomatic with characteristic radiographic appearance of a unilocular or multilocular cyst frequently associated with unerupted or displaced teeth while histologically, varying amount of inactive odontogenic epithelium embedded in a mature relatively dense collagenous stroma is diagnostic.
