Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of videolaryngoscopy and Macintosh laryngoscopy on adult patients who were scheduled for elective surgery under general anaesthesia.

Methods: Of the 200 adult patients who were scheduled to undergo general anaesthesia, 100 were intubated with a videolaryngoscope and 100 with a Macintosh laryngoscope. The patients' age, sex, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, height, weight, body mass index, smoking and alcohol habits, comorbidity, and neck circumference were recorded.

CHARGE syndrome is an autosomal dominant syndrome in which ocular coloboma (C), heart defects (H), choanal atresia (A), growth retardation (R), genital hypoplasia (G), ear abnormalities (E), and tracheoesophageal fistula, dysphagia, cleft palate, micrognathia, facial paralysis, hypopituitarism, and brain abnormalities may be seen in patients. The patients with CHARGE syndrome face surgical procedures many times from birth. Especially, the problems we meet in the airway may be special.

Objectives: Preemptive analgesia is an important factor in controlling the postoperative pain and avoiding the stress response caused by the surgery. We aim to compare impact of gabapentin and nimesulide on postoperative analgesic consumption on the visual analog scale (VAS) as well as any potential side effects, to those of the placebo group.

Methods: Ninety patients aged 18-70 under ASA I-II risk, who were to undergo Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS), were included in the study.

Central venous cannulation is a commonly preformed procedure in many branches of medicine, particularly in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. The purpose of this study was to compare the landmark-guided technique to the ultrasound-guided technique for internal jugular vein cannulation in cardiovascular surgery patients. One hundred cardiovascular surgery patients, of whom 65 were male and 35 were female with ages ranging from 22 to 65, who had internal jugular cannulation between December 2010-March 2011 in our clinic were investigated prospectively.

Airway management in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a challenging problem for anesthesiologists. The GlideScope video laryngoscope (GVL) is designed to assist tracheal intubation for patients with a difficult airway. The aim of the study was to report the successful intubation by GVL of four AS patients, and to discuss the use of GVL for tracheal intubation in patients with AS by performing a review of the literature.

Objective: To compare proseal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) with an endotracheal tube (ET) for airway safety, maintained ease of insertion, and hemodynamic stability in pediatric strabismus surgery (PSS).

Methods: This prospective-randomized clinical study was carried out in the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine, Gaziantep University, Turkey between April 2008 and July 2009. Eighty American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) I-II children, weight 10-30 kg, aged between 1-12 years undergoing PSS were selected.

Objective: Brachial plexus block offers several advantages when creating vascular access for hemodialysis. However, no controlled studies have directly evaluated arteriovenous fistula (AVF) blood flow in patients anesthetized by this method. We compared the effects of ultrasound-guided, infraclavicular brachial plexus block and local infiltration anesthesia on blood flow in the radial artery and AVF during the early and late postoperative periods.

Background And Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of inhalational anaesthesia using low and high gas flow rates of nitrous oxide and desflurane on mucociliary clearance and pulmonary function.

Methods: Fifty adult patients of the American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I-II, aged between 18 and 70 years, were recruited to the study. Patients were assigned randomly to one of two study groups.

Glanzmann thrombastenia (GT) is a rare condition of an inherited autosomal recessive gene characterized with bleeding tendency. The condition is rarely met in the OR. and therefore it is essential that anesthesiologist be cognizant of the risk involved and be prepared with all necessary precautionary measures.

The aim of this study was to determine the degree and reversibility of hearing loss (HL) following spinal anesthesia with an objective audiometric test: otoacoustic emissions (OAE). Eleven patients (22 ears) who were undergoing surgery under spinal anesthesia were included in this study. Transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) and distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) were evaluated 1 day before the operation and postoperative day 1, 2, and 15.

Objective: Patient satisfaction, an indicator of the quality of care provided by emergency department (ED) personnel, is a significant issue for EDs. The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with patient satisfaction and dissatisfaction, and to describe demographic characteristics of those surveyed in a university hospital ED.

Methods: All adult patients who consecutively presented to the ED between 8:00 a.

Background: Inadequate pain management after cardiac surgery may result 10 in increased morbidity and length of hospital stay. Although opioids are the mainstay of postoperative analgesia, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may be used instead to avoid the adverse effects (AEs) associated with opioids. Lornoxicam is a newly developed NSAID, the use of which is increasing.

Background: In surgical patients, decreasing the fresh gas flow rate in anesthesia may minimize costs, reduce environmental pollution, and preserve heat and humidity in the respiratory system.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of 3 low-flowdesflurane rates on perioperative hemodynamic stability, end-tidal desflurane concentration, emergence and recovery characteristics, and agent consumption.

Methods: This open-label, prospective study was conducted at the Departmentof Anesthesiology and Reanimation, University of Gaziantep, Gaziantep, Turkey.

The case of a severely traumatized pregnant patient, in whom a perimortem cesarean section, in the emergency department, led to the birth of a viable baby, with long-term survivor, is described. A postmortem cesarean section, resulting in fetal survival, performed after 45 minutes of maternal cardiopulmonary resuscitation is reported in a patient with multiple penetrating injuries. A 27-year-old primigravida suffered cardiopulmonary arrest at the 34th week of gestation following multiple knife injuries.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) level measurement in predicting coronary artery disease (CAD) that can be shown angiographically.

Methods: CRP levels were determined in the blood of 198 patients (patients group, PG) with angiographically documented coronary artery disease and compared with that of 85 patients (control group, CG) who had a clinical indication for coronary angiography but have no angiographically determined coronary artery stenosis, as well as with that of 41 healthy volunteers as a healthy control group (HG) who did not have any complaint and did not have coronary angiography. CRP levels were measured 24 hours prior to angiography in PG and CG patients, and in the morning after not having eaten for same time.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of extraperitoneal laparoscopy and carbon dioxide insufflation on hemodynamic parameters, arterial blood gases and complications in urethrocystopexy operations.

Methods: Twenty-five female patients who underwent extraperitoneal laparoscopic mesh urethrocystopexy operation for the correction of urinary incontinence were allocated to the study. Hemodynamic parameters were noted and blood gas analyzes were performed before the induction of anesthesia, 10 min after induction, 5 and 10 min after the beginning of carbon dioxide insufflation, at the end of carbon dioxide insufflation and 30 min after exsufflation.
