The textile market is a vast industry that utilizes antimicrobial polymeric materials, including various types of fabrics, for medical and personal protection applications. Therefore, this study focused on examining four types of antimicrobial fillers, namely, metal oxides (zinc, titanium, copper) and nanosilver, as fillers in Polyamide 12 fibers. These fillers can be applied in the knitting or weaving processes to obtain woven polymeric fabrics for medical applications.

Genetic factors have been reported to play an important role in the predisposition to development of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH). On the other hand, there is strong evidence that genetic factors play important role in the predisposition to essential hypertension. Recently, the plausible "candidate gene" for the development of hypertension is SA gene.

Objectives: Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infections especially 16 and 18 are risk factors for squamous cell vulvar cancer. E6 protein of HPV joins the tumor suppressor protein P53 and promotes its degradation. This is one of the possible mechanisms of viral oncogenes action.

The purpose of this study was to assess the hormonal function of transposed ovaries in young women treated for cervical cancer. Between 1992 and 1998, in the Silesian Medical Academy in Bytom, 101 women underwent radical hysterectomy with ovarian transposition by the Wertheim-Meigs method. Concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin, estradiol and testosterone in blood serum and cytologic indices (maturation index, karyopyknotic index and maturation value) were assessed before surgery and on the ninth day after surgery.

In this study we analysed occurrence of multifetal pregnancy in groups of patients after natural reproduction and after using ART between 1991-1998 in clinical material. We showed the most important complications during pregnancy, occurrence of TTTS, percentage of prematurity, percentage and indications to caesarean sections. We found that above-mentioned manifestations of perinatal care were comparable with reports of Polish and foreign authors.

Objective: The aim of our study was to evaluate the relation of parental history of hypertension to the development of PIH, and to assess the potential role of plausible candidate loci in the susceptibility to PIH.

Study Design: Five polymorphisms: ACE gene I/D and Pst1 RFLP polymorphism, AGT gene M235T polymorphism, AGTR1 gene A1166C polymorphism, and chymase gene CMA/B polymorphism were studied in 126 women suffering from PIH in comparison with 150 healthy pregnant women. Genotyping was performed using methods based on polymerase chain reaction.

Genetic and familial factors may predispose to H-gestosis. The aim of our study was to answer the question if angiotensinogen gene m235t polymorphism, and ACE gene I/D and Pst I RFLP polymorphisms may be markers of genetic predisposition to the H-gestosis. 246 pregnant women (median age 26 years) were studied (the studied group consisted of 116 women with H-gestosis and the control group consisted of 130 healthy pregnant women).

Surgery is the mainstay of the treatment of vulvar cancer. Radical vulvectomy together with some form of lymphadenectomy is the usual treatment today, but the desire to minimize morbidity have led to a selective decrease in the extent of the surgery in recent years. We recommended retroperitoneal pelvic lymphadenectomy be used only if the inguinal nodes were positive.

Analysis was subjected on 3528 cesarean sections made in I Obstetric and Gynecology Clinic Academy of Medicine in Bytom between 1977-1992. At the drop in general number of deliveries there were noticed upward tendencies in percentage of cesarean sections but during last two years this increase was inhibited. The ratio of sudden and planned indications determined by us as index of indications (N/P) oscillated from 0.

44 women at the age between 40 and 60, who underwent uterine leiomyoma surgery six years previously and 45 healthy women were examined for total cholesterol (TC), HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C), LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides (TG) and 17 beta-estradiol (E2). The value of the atherogenic coefficient [sequence: see text] and [sequence: see text] were determined. The clinical condition of the women was also evaluated.

The examinations were carried out in 44 women (age between 40 and 60 years) six years after surgery on account of a uterine leiomyoma. The total cholesterol (TC) level, HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C), LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides (TG) and 17 beta-estradiol (E2) as well as the values of the atherogenic coefficient HDL-C/TC- and HDL-C/LDL-C were assessed. The subjects were divided into 3 age groups as well as groups with regard to the extent of surgery.

Triiodothyronine (T3), free triiodothyronine (fT3), thyroxine (T4), free thyroxine, and TSH levels have been assayed in female patients undergoing gynecological surgeries of various extension (Wertheim-Meigs operation, pan-hysterectomy, unilateral adnexectomy, diagnostic laparoscopy). Laparoscopy did not produce any significant changes in the concentrations of assayed hormones. The remaining operations produced a decrease in T3 and fT3 levels and significant increase in T4 and fT4.
