Background And Aims: Previous studies have derived and validated an HDL apolipoproteomic score (pCAD) that predicts coronary artery disease (CAD) risk. However, the associations between pCAD and markers of cardiometabolic health in healthy adults are not known, nor are the effects of regular exercise on pCAD.
Methods: A total of 641 physically inactive adults free of cardiovascular disease from the HERITAGE Family Study completed 20 weeks of exercise training.
High-density lipoproteins (HDLs) are promising targets for predicting and treating atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), as they mediate removal of excess cholesterol from lipid-laden macrophages that accumulate in the vasculature. This functional property of HDLs, termed cholesterol efflux capacity (CEC), is inversely associated with ASCVD. HDLs are compositionally diverse, associating with >250 different proteins, but their relative contribution to CEC remains poorly understood.

This study describes LC-ESI-MS/MS method that covers the analysis of various cellular acyl-CoA in a single injection. The method is based on a quick extraction step eliminating LLE/SPE clean up. Method performance characteristics were determined after spiking acyl-CoA standards in different concentrations into a surrogate matrix.

Although the mechanism of mitochondrial dysfunction in NAFLD is still not fully elucidated, multiple studies have demonstrated evidence of molecular, biochemical, and biophysical mitochondrial abnormalities in NAFLD. Given the association between NAFLD and mitochondrial dysfunction, the aim of this study is to analyze circulating levels of Krebs cycle intermediates in a cohort of NAFLD-affected individuals and matching healthy controls and to correlate our findings with the liver function metrics.

Clinically, measurement of urine aldosterone provides evidence for the diagnosis of hyper- and hypo-aldosteronism. Urine specimen that is collected in consecutive 24 h is preferred, which mitigates the risk of misdiagnosis due to large diurnal variation in aldosterone secretion.
