For neurological disorders and diseases, functional and anatomical connectomes of the human brain can be used to better inform targeted interventions and treatment strategies. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive neuroimaging technique that captures spatio-temporal brain function through change in blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) signals over time. FMRI can be used to study the functional connectome through the functional connectivity matrix; that is, Pearson's correlation matrix between time series from the regions of interest of an fMRI image.

Cover crops are plants grown to provide regulating, supporting, and cultural ecosystem services in managed environments. In agricultural systems, weed suppression services from cover crops can be an important tool to promote sustainability as reliance on herbicides and tillage for weed management has caused pollution, biodiversity loss, and human health issues. However, to effectively use weed suppression services from cover crops, farmers must carefully select species that fit within their rotations and suppress their problematic weeds.

Outcomes of Extracorporeal Life Support Utilization for Pediatric Patients With COVID-19 Infections.

Outcomes of pediatric patients who received extracorporeal life support (ECLS) for COVID-19 remain poorly described. The aim of this multi-institutional retrospective observational study was to evaluate these outcomes and assess for prognostic factors associated with in-hospital mortality. Seventy-nine patients at 14 pediatric centers across the United States who received ECLS support for COVID-19 infections between January 2020 and July 2022 were included for analysis.

Objective: This study aimed to estimate and compare continuation rates of hormonal intrauterine devices (IUDs) when placed for contraceptive or menstrual management indications in adolescents and young adults.

Study Design: We conducted a secondary analysis of a prospectively collected database of all hormonal IUD insertions from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2020, with at least 1-year follow-up, across four Adolescent Medicine practices. IUD insertions without known indication were excluded.

The Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) is recognized for improving metabolic and hepatic outcomes in people with diabetes and NAFLD, in part, via anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of an ad libitum MedDiet versus low-fat diet (LFD) on inflammatory markers in adults with NAFLD.

Non-randomised feasibility study of training workshops for Talking Therapies service high-intensity therapists to optimise depression and anxiety outcomes for individuals with co-morbid personality difficulties: a study protocol.

Background: The NHS Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression programme ('TTad'; formerly Improving Access to Psychological Therapies 'IAPT') delivers high-intensity cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to over 200,000 individuals each year for common mental health problems like depression and anxiety. More than half of these individuals experience comorbid personality difficulties, who show poorer treatment outcomes. TTad therapists report feeling unskilled to work with clients with personality difficulties, and enhancing the training of TTad therapists may lead to improved treatment outcomes for individuals presenting with secondary personality difficulties alongside depression and anxiety.

Personalized, parcel-guided rTMS for the treatment of major depressive disorder: Safety and proof of concept.

Background: Not all patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) benefit from the US Food and Drug Administration-approved use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) at the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. We may be undertreating depression with this one-size-fits-all rTMS strategy.

Methods: We present a retrospective review of targeted and connectome-guided rTMS in 26 patients from Cingulum Health from 2020 to 2023 with MDD or MDD with associated symptoms.

Evaluating e-Connect: Mitigating Race by Gender Disparities in Behavioral Health Referral Among Youths on Probation, Northeast United States, 2019.

Addressing the behavioral health needs of youths involved in the justice system is key to reducing recidivism risk and preventing long-term system involvement. However, rates of treatment referral and initiation remain low, especially among minoritized youths and boys. The e-Connect System, a digital, clinical decision support system, addresses this problem by increasing rates of behavioral health treatment referral and initiation rates among youths on probation.

A Narrative Review of Key Studies in Medical Education in 2022: Applying the Current Literature to Educational Practice and Scholarship.

The expectation of every academic pediatrician is to stay updated on current evidence in their field; this is especially true of pediatric clinician educators who are training the next generation of pediatricians. Since 2016, select members of the Academic Pediatric Association Education Committee have curated educational research articles in order to distill the increasing volume of research related to medical education. The purpose of this narrative review is to summarize 14 articles published in 2022 related to medical education that may impact the work of pediatric clinician educators and educational leadership.

The evolution of mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) for diagnostic radiographers in Ireland - A longitudinal study.

Introduction: This longitudinal research study reports on aspects of CPD immediately before and in the years following the simultaneous introduction of state registration and mandatory CPD for diagnostic radiographers in Ireland.

Methods: Surveys captured information through closed and open questions distributed nationally across various hospital types in hard copy and online formats. Opinion was gathered over 8-years at three time points, prior to the introduction of mandated changes, post-introduction at the end of the first audit cycle, and as society was emerging from a period of pandemic.

Accidental lipid overdose in a preterm infant: A case report.

Background: Intravenous lipid emulsions (ILEs) provide essential fatty acids during parenteral nutrition (PN). Serious adverse events including death can occur from overdose. We report an accidental overdose in a preterm infant.

Colonic Hamartomatous Ganglioneuromatosis in a 4 Mo Old Puppy.

A 4 mo old male goldendoodle puppy was evaluated for chronic hematochezia with a history of recurrent rectal prolapse and tenesmus. A colo-colonic intussusception was diagnosed via abdominal imaging. Surgery was elected to reduce the intussusception, wherein a colonic mass was discovered.

Towards practice change: a qualitative study examining the impact of a Child Psychiatric Access Program (Project TEACH) on Primary Care Provider practices in New York State during pandemic times.

Background: This study aims to explore the perceived impact of Project TEACH (Training and Education for the Advancement of Children's Health), a New York State Office of Mental Health funded Child Psychiatric Access Program (CPAP), on pediatric Primary Care Providers (PCPs) and their practice. Practice change over time was assessed in the context of rising mental health needs and in the context of COVID19 pandemic.

Methods: Focus groups utilizing a semi-structured format were conducted with pediatric PCPs who have been high utilizers of Project TEACH over the past 5-10 years and PCPs in similar regions who have been low or non-utilizers of the program.

We sought to assess the feasibility and accuracy of a digital turbine spirometer, Medical International Research (MIR) Spirobank Smart (MIR, New Berlin, WI, USA), compared with a pneumotachography spirometer, Pneumotrac (Vitalograph Inc., Lenexa, KS, USA), in field-based clinical research.

An assessment of radiation safety practices for transgender and gender non-binary patients in Irish radiology departments.

Introduction: Studies indicate there may be inadequate care given to transgender and non-binary (TGNB) patients in healthcare environments, with radiology departments not being equipped to cater for this group. There is currently a deficit in research concerning the use of radiation safety measures for TGNB patients. The purpose of this research was to examine opinions of Irish Radiation Safety Experts (RSE) on current status of radiation safety protocols and techniques in place for TGNB patients and consider any changes necessary.

Observed Parenting and Adolescent Brain Structure.

Parent-youth relationships and parenting are critically important to adolescents' development. The present study examined associations between parenting behaviors (which included observed parent emotion expression and negative and positive parenting behaviors during a parent-adolescent interaction) and adolescent brain structure, and sex differences in associations, in 66 12-14 year-olds. The study found that 1) among all adolescents in the sample, greater parent negative emotion expression in parent-youth interactions was associated with greater adolescent gray matter volume (GMV) in the left hippocampus, 2) parent positive emotion expression was not associated with adolescent GMV, 3) several associations differed by sex.

Persistence of anxiety among Asian Americans: racial and ethnic heterogeneity in the longitudinal trends in mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Purpose: To examine within-individual time trends in mental well-being and factors influencing heterogeneity of these trends.

Methods: Longitudinal telephone survey of adults over 3 waves from the New York City (NYC) Metropolitan area during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Participants reported depression using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ)-8, anxiety using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)-7, and past 30-day increases in tobacco or alcohol use at each wave.
