A mixed-method process evaluation of an East Midlands county summer 2021 holiday activities and food programme highlighting the views of programme co-ordinators, providers, and parents.

Background: The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme is a UK Government initiative created to alleviate food insecurity and promote health and well-being among children and their families, who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), during the school holidays. This process evaluation investigated factors that facilitated and acted as a barrier to the delivery of the HAF Programme from the perspectives of key stakeholders (Co-ordinators, Providers, and Parents) involved in the HAF Programme across an East Midlands county.

Methods: This evaluation utilized a mixed-methods approach, incorporating focus groups and online surveys to gain rich, multifaceted data.

Preconception mental health and the relationship between antenatal depression or anxiety and gestational diabetes mellitus: a population-based cohort study.

Background: Antenatal depression and anxiety are highly prevalent conditions that have been associated with increased risk for myriad adverse outcomes. Current literature exploring the connection between antenatal mental health and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is limited, presenting conflicting evidence. We sought to evaluate the association between antenatal depression/anxiety (DEP-ANX) and GDM using population-based, administrative data, accounting for aspects of preconception mental health.

Current and Emerging Trends in Diabetes Care and Education: 2021 National Practice and Workforce Survey.

Purpose: The purpose of the National Practice Survey is to understand current trends related to the diabetes care and education specialist's integration into the full care team beyond formal diabetes self-management education and support services.

Methods: The 2021 National Practice Survey (NPS2021) contained 61 questions for all respondents with an additional 56 questions pertaining to specific diabetes care and education segments. An anonymous survey was administered online to respondents who are diabetes care and education specialists or a part of the diabetes care team.

Post-fracture rehabilitation pathways and association with mortality among adults with cerebral palsy.

Objective: Rehabilitation may mitigate the high mortality rates and health declines post-fracture for adults with cerebral palsy, but this is understudied. The objectives were to characterize the post-fracture rehabilitation pathways and identify their association with 1-year survival among adults with cerebral palsy.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study of adults with cerebral palsy with a fragility fracture with continuous health plan enrollment ≥1-year prior to and ≥1 day after their fracture date was performed using a random 20% Medicare fee-for-service dataset.

Management of Heart Failure in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasingly prevalent in patients with heart failure (HF) and HF is one of the leading causes of hospitalisation, morbidity and mortality in patients with impaired renal function. Currently, there is strong evidence to support the symptomatic and prognostic benefits of β-blockers, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone inhibitors (RAASis), angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitors (ARNIs) and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRA) in patients with HF and CKD stages 1-3. However, ARNIs, RAASis and MRAs are often suboptimally prescribed for patients with CKD owing to concerns about hyperkalaemia and worsening renal function.

Improving Quality Outcomes: The Value of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists.

Given the growing prevalence and accelerating cost of diabetes, there is an urgent need to expand strategies in health care that improve access and outcomes and reduce the financial and human burden of the disease. Diabetes care and education specialists (DCESs) are well positioned to assist health care systems with delivery models that enhance diabetes care through evidence-based standards and quality improvement strategies. DCESs have increased opportunities to apply their competencies in primary, specialty, hospital, and acute care settings; accountable care organizations; community settings; research; and academia.

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders and anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein positive optic neuropathies.

Aim: To describe the clinical characteristics and treatments associated with antibody positive optic neuropathies including anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) and anti-aquaporin 4 (AQP4), alongside diagnostic modalities, investigations, and outcomes.

Methods: A cross-sectional single-centre retrospective case series consisting of 16 patients including 12 anti-MOG positive patients and 4 anti-AQP4 positive patients. Each of these patients had clinical signs and symptoms of optic neuritis and consisted of all patients who had a positive blood antibody result in our centre.

Conjunctival Lymphoma.

Lymphoma of the conjunctiva is an ocular malignancy derived from clonal proliferation of lymphocytes. The majority of conjunctival lymphoma is extranodal marginal zone B-Cell lymphoma (EMZL), however diffuse large B-cell (DLBCL), follicular (FL), mantle cell (MCL) and T- cell subtypes are also seen. Clinical manifestations are non-specific, but include unilateral or bilateral painless salmon-pink conjunctival lesions.

Family physician leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic: roles, functions and key supports.

Purpose: Strong leadership in primary care is necessary to coordinate an effective pandemic response; however, descriptions of leadership roles for family physicians are absent from previous pandemic plans. This study aims to describe the leadership roles and functions family physicians played during the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada and identify supports and barriers to formalizing these roles in future pandemic plans.

Design/methodology/approach: This study conducted semi-structured qualitative interviews with family physicians across four regions in Canada as part of a multiple case study.

Clodronate detection and effects on markers of bone resorption are prolonged following a single administration to horses.

Background: Clodronate is a potent antiresorptive agent labelled for use in horses over 4 years of age, for the treatment of navicular syndrome. Concerns regarding the extra-label use of clodronate in equine athletes, such as racehorses, have been raised as inhibition of osteoclast activity by clodronate has been postulated to interfere with normal bone healing, which is imperative to the repair of microfractures. The paucity of data describing the long-term pharmacokinetics of clodronate and effects on biomarkers of bone resorption necessitates further study.

Isolation of a Cu-H Monomer Enabled by Remote Steric Substitution of a -Heterocyclic Carbene Ligand: Stoichiometric Insertion and Catalytic Hydroboration of Internal Alkenes.

Transient Cu-H monomers have long been invoked in the mechanisms of substrate insertion in Cu-H catalysis. Their role from Cu-H aggregates has been mostly inferred since ligands to stabilize these monomeric intermediates for systematic studies remain limited. Within the last decade, new sterically demanding -heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands have led to isolable Cu-H dimers and, in some cases, spectroscopic characterization of Cu-H monomers in solution.

COVID-19 symptom severity predicts neutralizing antibody activity in a community-based serological study.

Serological testing for SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies is used to assess their presence in blood samples from exposed individuals and provides a measure of the magnitude of immune response to infection. The measurement of neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) in particular provides information about the severity of prior infection and level of protective immunity against re-infection. Much of the work investigating the association between prior infection severity and NAb levels has been conducted among clinical populations, and less is known about this relationship in the general population.

Rapid Multivariate Analysis Approach to Explore Differential Spatial Protein Profiles in Tissue.

Spatially targeted proteomics analyzes the proteome of specific cell types and functional regions within tissue. While spatial context is often essential to understanding biological processes, interpreting sub-region-specific protein profiles can pose a challenge due to the high-dimensional nature of the data. Here, we develop a multivariate approach for rapid exploration of differential protein profiles acquired from distinct tissue regions and apply it to analyze a published spatially targeted proteomics data set collected from -infected murine kidney, 4 and 10 days postinfection.

The roles of family physicians during a pandemic.

Family physicians play important roles throughout all stages of a pandemic response; however, actionable descriptions outlining these roles are absent from current pandemic plans. Using a multiple case study design, we conducted a document analysis and interviewed 68 family physicians in four Canadian regions. We identified roles performed by family physicians in five distinct stages of pandemic response: pre-pandemic, phased closure and re-opening, acute care crisis, vaccination, and pandemic recovery.

Baseline Assessments of Psychomotor Aptitude Are Associated With the Future Operative Performance of Surgical Trainees: A Prospective Observational Cohort Study.

Objective: This study sought to investigate the association between validated psychomotor ability tests and future in-theater and simulated operative performance.

Background: Assessments of visuospatial ability, perceptual ability, and manual dexterity correlate with simulated operative performance. Data showing the predictive value of such assessments in relation to future performance in the workplace is lacking.

Supportive Oncology Care at Home Intervention for Patients With Pancreatic Cancer.

Purpose: We sought to determine the feasibility of delivering a Supportive Oncology Care at Home intervention among patients with pancreatic cancer.

Methods: We prospectively enrolled patients with pancreatic cancer from a parent trial of neoadjuvant fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and irinotecan (FOLFIRINOX). The intervention entailed (1) remote monitoring of patient-reported symptoms, vital signs, and body weight; (2) a hospital-at-home care model; and (3) structured communication with the oncology team.

Women's Preferences and Design Recommendations for a Postpartum Depression Psychoeducation Intervention: User Involvement Study.

Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity, affecting up to 18% of Canadian new mothers. Yet, PPD often remains untreated due to numerous barriers in access to care, including location and cost. Development of eHealth interventions in collaboration with patient partners offers an exciting opportunity to fill this care gap and provide effective and affordable care to new parents across British Columbia.

cytoNet: Spatiotemporal network analysis of cell communities.

We introduce cytoNet, a cloud-based tool to characterize cell populations from microscopy images. cytoNet quantifies spatial topology and functional relationships in cell communities using principles of network science. Capturing multicellular dynamics through graph features, cytoNet also evaluates the effect of cell-cell interactions on individual cell phenotypes.
