Background: Genital lichen sclerosus (GLS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting the genital and anal areas. Treatment of refractory remains a challenge in clinical practice.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (5-ALA PDT) for refractory GLS.

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and aggressive skin cancer that can be easily misdiagnosed in its early stages. Clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion for rapidly growing skin lesions in elderly patients and promptly investigate with histopathology and immunohistochemistry. Treatment for MCC should be individualized, considering the patient's age, overall health, and quality of life.

Objective: To explore the therapeutic effects of needle warming moxibustion (NWM) combined with trigger point massage on shoulder function and stress responses in elderly patients with frozen shoulder (FS), providing clinical guidance.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 116 patients with FS treated at the Guangdong Work Injury Rehabilitation Hospital from October 2022 to October 2023. The study included 61 patients who received NWM combined with trigger point massage (research group) and 55 patients who received conventional treatment (control group).

Article Synopsis
  • The case highlights the varied forms of porokeratosis (PK), showing a patient with different types of lesions on the skin, including facial and body areas.
  • Factors such as UV exposure, infections, and a weakened immune system may lead to these diverse symptoms in one individual.
  • Regular check-ups for possible cancerous changes are crucial, especially for older patients with a long history of PK and previous cancer conditions.

Background: Intramuscular (IM) injection of penicillin G Benzathine (PGB) is widely recognized as the primary treatment for patients at all stages of syphilis. However, the discomfort and induration associated with PGB injections are often a challenge for patients. While lidocaine is already known to reduce injection pain and is standard practice in some countries, the added value of combining lidocaine with the z-track technique has not been thoroughly investigated.

  • Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a frequent type of non-melanoma skin cancer often linked to sun exposure, but it can also arise in patients with chronic conditions like lupus vulgaris.* -
  • A unique case is presented of a 54-year-old patient with 20 years of lupus vulgaris who developed SCC after experiencing symptoms that included ulcerated papules.* -
  • The lesion was surgically removed, and after treatment, including photodynamic therapy and anti-tuberculosis medication, the patient showed no signs of recurrence and was happy with the treatment results.*

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on understanding sporotrichosis by examining its epidemiology, clinical features, and pathology in eastern China, involving a retrospective analysis of 49 patients over 20 years.
  • The majority of patients were middle-aged, with most infections occurring in farmers and manual laborers, and common clinical types being lymphocutaneous and fixed lesions frequently misdiagnosed as other skin infections.
  • Key diagnostic tools included fungal culture and histopathological examination, while treatment with oral itraconazole showed effectiveness, though some patients experienced recurrences.

A 10-year-old boy presented with persistent genital erythematous plaques unresponsive to traditional topical treatments. Apremilast, an underexplored option in pediatric cases, was initiated and resulted in a significant reduction in pruritus and resolution of the lesions. This case provides insight into the potential efficacy of apremilast in refractory pediatric inverse psoriasis and underscores the necessity for further research in this specific population.

Article Synopsis
  • Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) is a benign skin condition that impacts both physical appearance and mental well-being.
  • Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been proven effective and minimally invasive for treating various skin disorders, but its use for DPN was previously unexplored.
  • In a study involving 45 patients, PDT with 10% 5-aminolevulinic acid resulted in a 71.1% cure rate and 93.3% overall efficacy, with only mild side effects like redness and temporary pigmentation.

A 19-year-old young man presented with prodromal symptoms including fever and sore throat, followed by the development of scattered rashes in the perianal and penile regions. Monkeypox (MPX) was confirmed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of lesions. On the third day after complete resolution of the initial rash, the patient developed a new rash, which was diagnosed as secondary herpes zoster (HZ).

Background: Hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether (HMME) is a promising photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and has found wide application in the treatment of port-wine stains (PWS).

Objective: This study aims to observe and analyze the clinical efficacy and safety of HMME-PDT in the treatment of PWS patients. It also aims to evaluate the usefulness of color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI), an ultrasound technique for detecting blood flow in skin lesions, in assessing clinical efficacy.

Repairing damaged tissue caused by bacterial infection poses a significant challenge. Traditional antibacterial hydrogels typically incorporate various components such as metal antimicrobials, inorganic antimicrobials, organic antimicrobials, and more. However, drawbacks such as the emergence of multi-drug resistance to antibiotics, the low antibacterial efficacy of natural agents, and the potential cytotoxicity associated with metal antibacterial nanoparticles in hydrogels hindered their broader clinical application.

A 43-year-old male was diagnosed with vitiligo and had been treated with topical nitrogen mustard at the age of 13. Following two years of treatment, eruptive cherry angiomas developed and presented as widely distributed red papules throughout his trunk and proximal limbs. Ceasing the use of nitrogen mustard slowed the emergence of lesions.

Tinea capitis, a common cutaneous fungal infection, shows an increasing prevalence with the increasing number of pets. We present tinea capitis in a 4-year-old girl presenting without typical symptoms such as alopecia or hair breakage. After a comprehensive evaluation including dermoscopy, Wood's light, direct KOH fluorescent staining, scanning electron microscopy, fungal culture and mass spectrometry analysis, a diagnosis of tinea capitis infected Microsporum canis carried by domestic cats was made.

This investigation delves into the structural foundation of human dermal telocytes (TCs) with the aim of elucidating their role in signal transmission. Dermal TCs were isolated from human foreskins via enzymatic digestion and flow cytometric sorting, and identified by immunohistochemical staining with an antibody against CD34. The ultrastructure of TCs was examined using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
