We report the whole-genome sequence and antibiotic-resistance gene profile of an isolate, designated AC001_UM, taken from soil along the Red River in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The genome comprised 3,916,544 nucleotides (GC content: 38.7%).

The emergence of aminoglycoside resistance has prompted the development of amphiphilic aminoglycoside derivatives which target bacterial membranes. Tobramycin and nebramine ether derivatives initially designed for this purpose were optimized and screened for their potential application as outer membrane (OM) permeabilizing adjuvants. Structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies revealed that the tobramycin benzyl ether was the most optimal OM permeabilizer, capable of potentiating rifampicin, novobiocin, vancomycin, minocycline, and doxycycline against Gram-negative bacteria.

β-Lactam antibiotics remain one of the most effective therapeutics to treat infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria (GNB). However, since ancient times, bacteria have developed multiple resistance mechanisms toward this class of antibiotics including overexpression of β-lactamases, suppression of porins, outer membrane impermeability, overexpression of efflux pumps, and target modifications. To cope with these challenges and to extend the lifetime of existing β-lactam antibiotics, β-lactamase inhibitors are combined with β-lactam antibiotics to prevent antibiotic inactivation by β-lactamases.

Background: Severe dengue (SD), experienced by only a fraction of dengue patients, can be lethal. Due to the lack of early markers that can predict the evolution of SD, all dengue patients have to be monitored under hospital care. We discovered early oxidative stress markers of SD to identify patients who can benefit from early intervention before the symptoms appear.
