Objectives: To develop and validate an artificial intelligence (AI) system for measuring and detecting signs of carpal instability on conventional radiographs.
Materials And Methods: Two case-control datasets of hand and wrist radiographs were retrospectively acquired at three hospitals (hospitals A, B, and C). Dataset 1 (2178 radiographs from 1993 patients, hospitals A and B, 2018-2019) was used for developing an AI system for measuring scapholunate (SL) joint distances, SL and capitolunate (CL) angles, and carpal arc interruptions.
Background: A better understanding of the subjective experience of living with Parkinson's disease (PD) and the factors that influence this experience can be used to improve wellbeing of people with PD (PwP).
Objective: To gain more insight in the subjective experience of PD from the PwP's perspective, and the factors that contribute to this experience.
Methods: In this qualitative review, we performed a systematic search of qualitative studies discussing the subjective experience of PD and extracted reported themes (first order themes).
Background: Mental healthcare is an important component in societies' response to mental health problems. Although the World Health Organization highlights availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality of healthcare as important cornerstones, many Europeans lack access to mental healthcare of high quality. Qualitative studies exploring mental healthcare from the perspective of people with lived experiences would add to previous research and knowledge by enabling in-depth understanding of mental healthcare users, which may be of significance for the development of mental healthcare.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn this study, we aim to contribute to the field of critical health communication research by examining how notions of mental health and illness are discursively constructed in newspapers and magazines in six European countries and how these constructions relate to specific understandings of mental health literacy. Using the method of cluster-agon analysis, we identified four terminological clusters in our data, in which mental health/illness is conceptualized as "dangerous," "a matter of lifestyle," "a unique story and experience," and "socially situated." We furthermore found that we cannot unambiguously assume that biopsychiatric discourses or discourses aimed at empathy and understanding are either exclusively stigmatizing or exclusively empowering and normalizing.

This study formed part of MentALLY, a research project funded by the European Commission, which aimed to gather qualitative empirical evidence to support the provision of European mental healthcare that provides effective treatment to all adults who need it.
Methods: Seven focus groups were conducted with 49 health professionals (HPs), including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, general practitioners, and psychiatric nurses who worked in health services in Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.
Background: Active acromegaly is characterized by Growth Hormone and Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF)-1 excess. Voice complaints are common in active acromegaly and are suggested to be caused by effects of Growth Hormone or IGF-1 on vocal folds and the surrounding soft tissues. Prospective studies on the course of voice characteristics in acromegaly patients are scarce and results are conflicting.

We aimed to assess overall survival (OS) of AL amyloidosis patients by comparing cohorts in two consecutive time periods.
Methods: Data were collected and compared on 126 patients from two tertiary referral centres in The Netherlands during the time periods 2008-2012 and 2013-2016.
Amyloid light chain (AL) amyloidosis and multiple myeloma (MM) are both clonal plasma cell disorders, and may be concurrently present in patients. However, symptomatic MM seldom develops in patients with AL amyloidosis, while the other way around is common. With this case report, we discuss the difficulties in the differential diagnosis between AL amyloidosis and MM, and extend on the possible mechanisms involved in the development of these overlapping disorders.

However, less is known about the effect of analgesics on burrowing in neuropathic pain models and no studies have determined burrowing performance in models of diabetes-associated neuropathic pain.
Objective: To compare the sensitivity of the burrowing assay in different neuropathic pain models: mononeuropathic pain and diabetic polyneuropathy.
Agonists selectively acting at NOP, MOP, DOP and KOP receptors as well as mixed opioid receptor agonists are known to exert anti-hypersensitive efficacy in the rat spinal nerve ligation (SNL) model of neuropathic pain. To investigate the relative contribution of individual opioid receptor activation to the overall efficacy of mixed opioid receptor agonists, selective doses of respective opioid receptor antagonists have to be employed. In order to identify such selective antagonist doses, doses of the selective NOP, MOP, DOP and KOP receptor agonists Ro65-6570, morphine, SNC-80 and U50488H, that produced maximum efficacy without apparent side effects, were challenged by each of the receptor antagonists J-113397 (NOP receptor), naloxone (MOP receptor), naltrindole (DOP receptor) and nor-binaltorphimine (KOP receptor).

Objective: To further explore the implication of the serotonin (5-HT) system in the improvement of rat short-term object recognition after administration of the type 2 phosphodiesterase inhibitor (PDE-I) BAY 60-7550 and the type 5 PDE-I vardenafil, the effect of PDE2 and PDE5 inhibition upon central amino acid levels, 5-HT, and related parameters were measured after applying acute tryptophan depletion (ATD).
Method: Wistar rats were orally administered saline or a protein-carbohydrate mixture with or without tryptophan (TRP). TRP-depleted animals additionally received an oral vehicle injection or the PDE inhibitors BAY 60-7550 or vardenafil at a dose known to improve object memory performance.
