Background: Utilising electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO) to monitor symptoms can improve patient outcomes. However, ePRO systems are typically not co-designed with end-users which may limit their utility and long-term sustainability. We aimed to co-design a real-time ePRO symptom monitoring system for immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) toxicities.

Introduction: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are validated and standardised questionnaires that capture patients' own reports of their symptoms, functioning and well-being. PROMs can facilitate communication between patients and clinicians, reduce symptom burden, enhance quality of life and inform health service re-design. We aim to determine the acceptability of PROMs and the preferred timing of PROM completion in New South Wales (NSW) at the point of care, facilitated by the Health Outcomes and Patient Experiences (HOPE) platform.

Purpose: Electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) symptom monitoring may support the safe delivery of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). There is no consensus on which side effects should be monitored in routine care. We aimed to develop a prioritized list of ICI side effects to include in ePRO systems and compare this to existing ICI-specific patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).

Background: Alcohol use is declining among US adolescents/early young adults and increasing among other adults, with increases in adult binge drinking more concentrated in females than males. Reasons for drinking are historically patterned by age and sex, and if historically variant, could suggest that changes over time could in part explain age- and sex-differential cohort effects.

Methods: We analyzed longitudinal Monitoring the Future data for individuals born from 1958 to 1990.

Introduction: Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) accounts for 5-15% of invasive breast cancers. Typical ILC is oestrogen receptor (ER) positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) negative. Atypical biomarker profiles (ER- and HER2+, ER+ and HER2+ or triple negative) appear to differ from typical ILCs.

Background: Facial cancer surgery involving the midface (comprising the lower eyelids, nose, cheeks, and upper lip) can have debilitating life-changing functional, social, and psychological impacts on the patient. Midface symptoms are inadequately captured by existing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). PROMs are increasingly used for individual patient care, quality improvement, and standardized reporting of treatment outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • The United States is dealing with a serious problem of people dying from opioid overdoses, with a lot of deaths happening in 2020.
  • A study used computer simulations to see how different strategies, like giving out more medicine and anti-overdose kits, could help reduce these deaths by 40% in different counties in New York.
  • The results showed that each county needs a different mix of strategies to be effective, depending on how much help they’ve already been getting for opioid issues.

Background: Psilocybin, the principle psychoactive component in "shrooms", is regaining acceptance in therapeutic settings, leading to media coverage of medical benefits associated with use. Possession is also becoming increasingly decriminalized throughout the United States. There is a lack of data on prevalence of shroom use, but trends in law enforcement seizure data can provide one indicator of shroom availability in US communities.

Purpose: Electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) are an evidence-based means of detecting symptoms earlier and improving patient outcomes. However, there are few examples of successful implementation in routine cancer care. We conducted a qualitative study to identify barriers and facilitators to implementing ePRO symptom monitoring in routine cancer care using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR).

Introduction: Detection of community respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections informs the timing of immunoprophylaxis programs and hospital preparedness for surging pediatric volumes. In many jurisdictions, this relies upon RSV clinical test positivity and hospitalization (RSVH) trends, which are lagging indicators. Wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) may be a novel strategy to accurately identify the start of the RSV season and guide immunoprophylaxis administration and hospital preparedness.
