Introduction: Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a chronic eye condition that causes severe deterioration of vision and ultimately blindness. Two vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors are approved for nAMD treatment in Europe: ranibizumab and aflibercept. The European license for ranibizumab was updated with an individualized "treat and extend" (T&E) regimen, which involves more proactive treatment based on changes in best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and/or anatomical outcomes.

Introduction: Early insertion of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) in high-risk patients with acute variceal haemorrhage reduces rebleeding and mortality. However, the economic benefit of utilizing this approach remains unclear. View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Liver function tests (LFTs) are ordered in large numbers in primary care, and the Birmingham and Lambeth Liver Evaluation Testing Strategies (BALLETS) study was set up to assess their usefulness in patients with no pre-existing or self-evident liver disease. All patients were tested for chronic viral hepatitis thereby providing an opportunity to compare various strategies for detection of this serious treatable disease.
Methods: This study uses data from the BALLETS cohort to compare various testing strategies for viral hepatitis in patients who had received an abnormal LFT result.
