Unlabelled: Ileocolic intussusception, a major cause of acute intestinal obstruction in young children, necessitates rapid diagnosis and a multidisciplinary treatment approach. A recent large study identified variations in pain management, sedation, and non-operative reduction methods in these patients. We aimed to explore variability within the diagnostic and treatment pathways of ileocolic intussusception.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the risk of post-contrast Acute Kidney Injury (PC-AKI) in patients aged 85 and older undergoing CT scans with intravenous contrast media, addressing the lack of data for this super-elderly group.
  • It analyzed a cohort of 7,078 hospitalized patients, finding a 5.72% overall occurrence of AKI within 72 hours post-scan, with slightly higher rates in the non-IV contrast group but no significant differences between those receiving and not receiving contrast.
  • Results indicate that contrast-enhanced CT scans are generally safe for super-elderly patients, especially those with normal to mild kidney dysfunction, contributing valuable insights to the risk-benefit assessment of such procedures in this age group.

Background: The Lémann Index [LI] and the recently updated LI are tools for measuring structural bowel damage in adults with Crohn's disease [CD] but have not been evaluated in children. We aimed to validate the updated LI in the prospective multicentre ImageKids study of paediatric CD.

Methods: We included children with CD undergoing magnetic resonance enterography [MRE], pelvic magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] and ileocolonoscopy.

Objectives: Although magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) can accurately reflect ileal inflammation in pediatric Crohn disease (CD), there are no pediatric data on the accuracy of MRE to detect upper gastrointestinal tract (UGI) lesions. We aimed to compare MRE and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) in detecting the spectrum and severity of UGI disease in children.

Methods: This is an ancillary study of the prospective multi-center ImageKids study focusing on pediatric MRE.

Objectives: Data on the outcomes of children with perianal Crohn disease (pCD) are limited, although its presence is often used for justifying early use of biologics. We aimed to assess whether pCD in children is associated with more severe outcomes as found in adults.

Methods: Data were extracted from the ImageKids database, a prospective, multicenter, longitudinal cohort study.

Objective: Zebra spleen is the normal pattern of splenic enhancement during the arterial phase of CT and MRI and is attributed to different flow rates. The purpose of this study was to describe the appearance and occurrence of bands of hypoechogenicity in the spleen on unenhanced sonograms of children with no splenic abnormalities.

Materials And Methods: We reviewed 100 abdominal ultrasound studies to evaluate the ultrasound characteristics of the spleen.
