The risk of urine bacterial colonisation in patients with a permanent catheter after caesarean section.

We present an observational study, conducted in Slovakia, concerning the occurrence of newly acquired urine colonisations in women with Foley catheters after a Caesarean section. A sample of urine was taken from each patient when the Foley catheter was first inserted, before the operation and was sent to the lab for culture. Later, a sample of urine was taken during the removal of the Foley catheter.

Impact of introducing specific measures to reduce the frequency of cesarean delivery for non-obstetric indications.

Objective: To identify the frequency of cesarean delivery for non-obstetric indications before and after the introduction of specific measures to lower the rate of elective cesarean, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the introduced measures.

Methods: In the present single-center retrospective cohort study at University Hospital Trnava, Trnava, Slovak Republic, the frequency of elective cesarean was evaluated before (January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2014) and after (January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2016) the implementation of specific measures applied in January 2015 to confirm the indications for primary cesarean delivery. The frequency of elective cesarean delivery for non-obstetric indications was compared between the two periods.

Atherogenic index of plasma is positively associated with the risk of all-cause death in elderly women : A 10-year follow-up.

Background: The blood concentrations of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) do not predict survival in patients older than 60 years. The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) is a logarithm of the triacylglycerol to high-density lipoprotein (HDL) ratio and a surrogate for the concentration of small dense LDL. It might be a better reflection of the risk of all-cause death in elderly patients.
