We undertook a retrospective cohort study of a remote carpal tunnel syndrome assessment pathway created in response to limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Between July 2020 and September 2021, 702 patients referred from primary care (general practice) were assessed in a nurse-led telephone clinic using the carpal tunnel questionnaire of Kamath and Stothard (2003). Depending on their questionnaire score, patients were referred either for nerve conduction studies or a consultant hand surgeon review for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Although notoriously difficult to repair, advances in interfacial tissue engineering techniques are being developed for restorative function. Most notably are 3D in vitro co-culture models, built to recreate the complex heterogeneity of the native enthesis.

Methods: Wrist arthroscopies performed between 2011-2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients' clinical records were evaluated to determine the result of the Pisiform Boost Test during clinical examination and TFCC tear within the body of the TFCC as seen at wrist arthroscopy.

Nutrients and diets have an important impact on our immune system and infection risk and a huge number of papers have been published dealing with various aspects of nutrition in relation to SARS-CoV-2 infection risk or COVID-19 severity. This narrative review aims to give an update on this association and tries to summarize some of the most important findings after three years of pandemic. The analysis of major studies and systematic reviews leads to the conclusion that a healthy plant-based diet reduces the risks for SARS-CoV-2 infection and especially COVID-19 severity.

Sources Of Data: A PRISMA-compliant systematic search of Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane, AMED, CINAHL Plus and SPORTDiscus was performed using keywords 'scapholunate', 'scapholunate ligament', 'scaphoid lunate', 'sport', 'sport injury', 'athlete', 'athletic performance', 'elite', 'return to sport', 'training', 'work', 'activity', 'return to activity'. Adult patients with isolated SLL injury, without osteoarthritis, were included.
Background: Regular, especially sustained exercise plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of multiple chronic diseases. Some of the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms behind the adaptive response to physical activity are still unclear, but recent findings suggest a possible role of epigenetic mechanisms, especially miRNAs, in the progression and management of exercise-related changes. Due to the combination of the analysis of epigenetic biomarkers (miRNAs), the intake of food and supplements, and genetic dispositions, a "fitness score" was evaluated to assess the individual response to nutrition, exercise, and metabolic influence.

Strategies to maintain functional mitochondria during aging include training; cardiovascular exercise has been suggested as the best method, but strength training has also been identified as essential to health and healthy aging. We therefore investigated the effects of concurrent exercise training and dietary habits on epigenetic mechanisms involved in mitochondrial (mt) functions and biogenesis.

This loss of anatomical structure, highly related to function, contributes to poor clinical outcomes. Investigating the native macro- and micro-structure of a specific enthesis can provide functional and biomechanical insights to develop specialised, novel tissue-engineered therapeutic options and potentially improve current surgical treatments for avulsion injuries.

The SLIL enthesis has not previously been studied despite its important mechanical function in wrist joint biomechanics. This study aims to compare the histomorphological differences between the SLIL subregions, including at their entheses.

In this review article we synthesise the existing literature for treatment of human and animal bites and offer practical considerations when managing bite injuries.

It consists of eight distinct structures, with the ligamentous structures acting as the major stabilizer of the distal radioulnar joint and with the articular disc acting as a shock absorber at the ulnocarpal joint. The articular disc can be called the triangular fibrocartilage (TFC).

Methods: 89 consecutive patients who had undergone wrist arthroscopy for ulna sided wrist pain in our unit were identified and their preoperative imaging reviewed. Two consultant musculoskeletal Radiologists independently reported the presence or absence of a DRUJ effusion and or a TFCC tear.
Purpose: Dart-thrower's motion (DTM) is a functional wrist movement from maximum radial extension to maximum ulnar flexion. This study defines a reference range of DTM in a healthy population.
Methods: Goniometric measurements were collected from both wrists of 200 healthy volunteers.
Introduction: Real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rt-CGM) informs users about current interstitial glucose levels and allows early detection of glycaemic excursions and timely adaptation by behavioural change or pharmacological intervention. Randomised controlled studies adequately powered to evaluate the impact of long-term application of rt-CGM systems on the reduction of adverse obstetric outcomes in women with gestational diabetes (GDM) are missing. We aim to assess differences in the proportion of large for gestational age newborns in women using rt-CGM as compared with women with self-monitored blood glucose (primary outcome).

There is a need for national diagnostic reference levels to advise Orthopaedic and Plastic surgeons on safe screening times and radiation doses for patients having upper limb surgical procedures.
Methods: Retrospective study of all patients who underwent upper limb surgical procedures requiring intra-operative mini C-arm image intensifier use at our hospital between 2013 and 2019.
Pain of the hand distal interphalangeal joints may result from trauma, osteoarthritis or inflammatory arthritis. When symptoms are not controlled by non-operative means, surgical arthrodesis may be performed, resulting in complete stiffness of the joint and possible weakening of grip strength. This study aims to quantify the effect of a stiff ring finger distal interphalangeal joint on overall grip strength.

Design: In this representative cross-sectional study, socio-demographic data, anthropometric measurements, socio-economic status (SES), physical fitness, nutrition knowledge and eating habits were assessed. Differences between groups were tested by χ2 and t tests.
Children aged <2 years should not be given meals with the addition of salt and sugar due to health risks and to promote healthier dietary habits. The aims of this study were: to assess the prevalence of the use of added salt (AS), sugar (ASu) and both salt and sugar (AS&Su) in the diets of Polish and Austrian toddlers aged 12-24 and 25-36 months; to explore the sociodemographic and early nutritional factors associated with the use of AS and ASu; to investigate the difference in dietary habits and maternal concerns about toddlers' eating regarding the use of AS and ASu in toddlers' diet. This cross-sectional anonymous study was conducted in 5893 mothers of children aged 12-36 months, recruited through social media in 2017-2019.
