Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the delivered dose to the expected intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) dose with in vivo dosimetry. For IORT using electrons in accelerated partial breast irradiation, this is especially relevant since a high dose is delivered in a single fraction.
Methods: For 47 of breast cancer patients, in vivo dosimetry was performed with MOSFETs and/or GAFCHROMIC EBT2 films.

Objective: The aim of our diagnostic accuracy study Child Abuse Inventory at Emergency Rooms (CHAIN-ER) was to establish whether a widely used checklist accurately detects or excludes physical abuse among children presenting to ERs with physical injury.
Design: A large multicentre study with a 6-month follow-up in 4 ERs in The Netherlands.
Method: Participants were 4290 children aged 0-7 years, attending the ER because of physical injury.

Methods And Results: A total of 45 out of 50 consecutive healthy subjects (38 males, age 45 ± 15 years) successfully underwent both 3DSTE and MRI on the same day. Three-dimensional echocardiography data sets were analysed using speckle tracking to measure LV end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes, EF, and global CS.

Recent literature indicates that torsion of the left ventricle (LV) is a promising predictor for response to cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT). Among patients with severe heart failure, 45 to 75% of patients show rigid body rotation, where the base and apex rotate in the same direction, instead of normal, opposite rotation. The occurrence of this phenomenon seems to be a good indicator for response to CRT.

Background: Increased left ventricular (LV) torsion has been observed in patients with manifest familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and is thought to be caused by subendocardial dysfunction. We hypothesize that increased LV torsion is already present in healthy mutation carriers with normal wall thickness.
Methods: Seventeen carriers with an LV wall thickness <10 mm, and seventeen age and gender matched controls had cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) cine imaging and tissue tagging.
Background: Clinical data on myocardial function in HCM mutation carriers (carriers) is sparse but suggests that subtle functional abnormalities can be measured with tissue Doppler imaging before the development of overt hypertrophy. We aimed to confirm the presence of functional abnormalities using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), and to investigate if sensitive functional assessment could be employed to identify carriers.
Results: 28 carriers and 28 controls were studied.
New developments and expanding indications have resulted in a significant increase in the number of patients with pacemakers and internal cardioverterdefibrillators (ICDs). Because of its unique capabilities, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become one of the most important imaging modalities for evaluation of the central nervous system, tumours, musculoskeletal disorders and some cardiovascular diseases. As a consequence of these developments, an increasing number of patients with implanted devices meet the standard indications for MRI examination.

Opposite rotation can be lost in heart failure, but might be restored by pacing; therefore, the predictive value of the loss of opposite base-apex rotation in heart failure patients for the response to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) was studied.
Methods And Results: In 34 CRT candidates and 12 controls, basal and apical LV rotations were calculated using magnetic resonance image tagging.
During left ventricular (LV) torsion, the base rotates in an overall clockwise direction and the apex rotates in a counterclockwise direction when viewed from apex to base. LV torsion is followed by rapid untwisting, which contributes to ventricular filling. Because LV torsion is directly related to fiber orientation, it might depict subclinical abnormalities in heart function.

Methods: CMR tagging was performed in six healthy volunteers. From this, LV torsion was calculated using a 2D and a 3D method.
Objectives: To compare regional left ventricular (LV) volume curves obtained with real time three-dimensional echocardiography (RT3DE) with two-dimensional circumferential strain curves obtained by MRI in cardiac resynchronization therapy candidates.
Background: Several methods using either ultrasound or MRI are used to quantify mechanical dyssynchrony (MD). Theoretically, LV volume and circumferential strain seem related, since both measures are connected to the radius of the ventricle.
Purpose: To introduce a standardized method for calculation of left ventricular torsion by CMR tagging and to determine the accuracy of torsion analysis in regions using an analytical model.
Methods: Torsion between base and apex, base and mid, and mid and apex levels was calculated using CSPAMM tagging and Harmonic Phase tracking. The accuracy of torsion analysis on a regional basis (circumferential segments and transmural layers) was analyzed using an analytical model of a deforming cylinder with a displaced axis of rotation (AoR).
Aims: One-third of dilated cardiomyopathy patients receiving a biventricular pacing-device do not respond to this form of therapy. Therefore, the utility of mechanical dyssynchrony by real-time 3D echocardiography (RT3DE) for predicting systolic response to biventricular pacing, of which maximal rate of pressure rise (dP/dt(max)) served as the gold-standard, was evaluated.
Methods And Results: Seventeen consecutive heart failure patients (aged 64 +/- 10 years, 8 male, 6 ischaemic cardiomyopathy, mean QRS duration 136 +/- 32 ms) underwent RT3DE and biventricular pacing.
Purpose: To investigate whether mechanical dyssynchrony (regional timing differences) or heterogeneity (regional strain differences) in myocardial function should be used to predict the response to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
Materials And Methods: Baseline mechanical function was studied with MRI in 29 patients with chronic heart failure. Using myocardial tagging, two mechanical dyssynchrony parameters were defined: the standard deviation (SD) in onset time (T onset) and in time to first peak (T peak,first) of circumferential shortening.
Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is an inherited disorder of the porphyrin metabolism that often remains undiagnosed in children. We report on a 4-year-old girl who had been suffering for 1 year from recurrent painful crises affecting her hands, feet, and nose following sun exposure. Objective skin lesions were absent until the age of 6.
