Background: There have been 2 primary methods of intravenous fluid administration for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) treatment described in the literature: the serial bag method and the 2-bag method.
Objectives: This study will assess the clinical outcomes and workflow efficiency after a transition in practice from the serial fluid method to the 2-bag method for pediatric DKA.
Methods: This was a retrospective chart review of pediatric DKA patients 18 years or younger, 1 year before and after the transition was conducted.
Background: The decision to place a subcutaneously tunneled catheter is an infection prevention strategy for long term venous access allowing the proceduralist to access a vein and relocate the catheter exit site to a region on the body where care and maintenance can be safely performed. Subcutaneously tunneled centrally inserted dialysis catheter (ST-CIDC) placement is commonly performed in patients with renal disease and is traditionally performed with fluoroscopy in the interventional radiology suite or the operating theater. However, today's interventional radiologists and surgeons perform advanced invasive procedures that can be time-consuming resulting in delays in the scheduling of elective tunneled catheter placements.

Research Design: Describe HCAHPS score trends overall, by phase: (1) initial public reporting period (2008-2013), (2) first 2 years of HVBP (2013-2015), and (3) initial HCAHPS Star Ratings reporting (2015-2019); and by hospital characteristics (HCAHPS decile, ownership, size, teaching affiliation, and urban/rural).
Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a major public health condition that renders patients at risk of recurrent events, which significantly increases their morbidity, mortality, and health care costs. Apart from warfarin, direct oral anticoagulants, such as apixaban, dabigatran, or rivaroxaban, are approved for VTE treatment. Cardiovascular drugs are largely impacted by formulary restrictions; however, the impact on oral anticoagulants (including warfarin and direct oral anticoagulants) in VTE has not been well studied.

From 2019 to 2022, the For Our Children project gathered a team of Chinese and American pediatricians to explore the readiness of the pediatric workforce in each country to address pressing child health concerns. The teams compared existing data on child health outcomes, the pediatric workforce, and education and combined qualitative and quantitative comparisons centered on themes of effective health care delivery outlined in the World Health Organization Workforce 2030 Report. This article describes key findings about pediatric workload, career satisfaction, and systems to assure competency.

The evidence of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) usage for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients at extremes of body weight or mass index is limited. In such situations, warfarin may be more frequently used. We investigated warfarin time in the therapeutic international normalized ratio range (TTR) and DOAC adherence based on the calculated proportion of days covered (PDC) by pill coverage from a DOAC prescription in patients with VTE across all body sizes.

Introduction: In the USA, there is a steady rise of atrial fibrillation due to the aging population with increased morbidity. This study evaluated the risk of stroke/systemic embolism (S/SE) and major bleeding (MB) among elderly patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) and multimorbidity prescribed direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs).
Methods: Using the CMS Medicare database, a retrospective observational study of adult patients with NVAF and multimorbidity who initiated apixaban, dabigatran, or rivaroxaban from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2017 was conducted.
The current movement to 'decolonize' global health aims to both dismantle colonial frameworks that perpetuate inequity and racism, as well as to rebuild and uplift structures and systems that celebrate indigeneity. However, it is critical to recognize that teaching decoloniality within global health education is more than just the acknowledgement that there are key paradigms missing from current global health education. It is imperative to have a methodology to hold ourselves and our learners accountable to progress in practices and ideals that promote equity-based praxis.

To our knowledge, no studies have comprehensively evaluated safety and effectiveness outcomes among patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation receiving oral anticoagulants according to independent, categorical risk strata.
Objective: To evaluate the incidence of key adverse outcomes among patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation receiving oral anticoagulants by CHA2DS2-VASc risk score range, thromboembolic event history, and age group.
Background: Hospitals may provide less positive patient experiences for older than younger patients.
Methods: We used 2019 HCAHPS data from 4358 hospitals to compare patient-mix adjusted HCAHPS Survey scores for 19 experience of care items for patients ages 75+ versus 55-74 years and tested for interactions of age group with patient and hospital characteristics. We contrasted the age patterns observed for inpatient experiences with those among respondents to the 2019 Medicare CAHPS (MCAHPS) Survey of overall experience.
Background: Oral anticoagulants (OACs) mitigate stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The study aim was to analyze prevalence and predictors of OAC underutilization.
