Article Synopsis
  • This study compared three methods for apicectomy—NINJA piezoelectric device, diamond bur, and Er: YAG laser—focusing on temperature rise, time taken, and cut quality.
  • Results showed the piezoelectric method had the highest temperature increase and took the longest time, while the laser methods showed better cut quality with fewer cracks and less smear layer formation.
  • The study concluded that Er: YAG laser and rotary instruments are efficient and safer alternatives for apicectomy compared to piezoelectric devices, suggesting that further research is needed to confirm the laser's effectiveness in real-life applications.

2-Ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP) is a representative organophosphorus flame retardant (OPFR) that has garnered attention due to its widespread use and potential adverse effects. EHDPP exhibits cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, developmental toxicity, and endocrine disruption. However, the toxicity of EHDPP in mammalian oocytes and the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.

Background: Immune-mediated conjunctivitis is a prevalent ocular ailment characterized by inflammation and immune reactions in the conjunctiva. However, the precise causes and therapeutic approaches for this condition remain the main focus for numerous ophthalmological specialists. Recently, accumulating evidence from human and mouse experiments has demonstrated the critical involvement of the NLRP3 inflammasome, IL-1β, and IL-18 in the development of allergic diseases.

Cadmium pollution in rice is a threat to human health. Phytoexclusion is an effective strategy to reduce the Cd accumulation. Soil-to-root is the first step of Cd entering rice and plays a crucial role in Cd accumulation, so targeting root transporters could be an effective approach for phytoexclusion.

Objective: Anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF) has been widely used in the treatment of cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) but is accompanied by unavoidable motion loss and destruction of vertebra. We aim to evaluate the range of motion (ROM) of caprine cervical spine constructs implanted with cervical artificial disc and vertebra system (ADVS). The purpose of this study was to investigate the biomechanical properties of the ADVS from an in vivo caprine cervical spine non-fusion model.

Article Synopsis
  • - Pteris vittata is a plant known for its extraordinary ability to absorb and accumulate high levels of arsenic, thanks to its efficient system for moving arsenic throughout the plant.
  • - Researchers identified a gene called PvAsE1 that plays a crucial role as an arsenite effluxer, helping to transport arsenic out of cells and into the xylem for long-distance movement in the plant.
  • - Phylogenomic studies suggest that the PvAsE1 gene emerged around 52.7 million years ago, likely as an adaptation to environmental pressures, and its discovery helps explain the unique arsenic tolerance of P. vittata.

Tetrodecadazinone (1), a novel tetrodecamycin-pyridazinone hybrid possessing a new 1,2-dimethyl-1-(2-methylnonyl)decahydronaphthalene skeleton, and 4-hydroxydihydrotetrodecamycin (2) were separated from a culture of Streptomyces sp. HU051, together with a known compound, dihydrotetrodecamycin (3). Diverse spectroscopic approaches were applied to assign the structures of 1-3, and the structure of 1 was further confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Ellagic acid (EA) was reported to play protective roles in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It was found that the level of metastasis-associated gene 1 (MTA1)/histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) protein complex was downregulated by polyphenols in several human disorders. Notably, inhibition of MTA1 or HDAC1 has anti-inflammatory effects on RA.

Single-cell RNA-Sequencing (scRNA-seq) is the most widely used high-throughput technology to measure genome-wide gene expression at the single-cell level. One of the most common analyses of scRNA-seq data detects distinct subpopulations of cells through the use of unsupervised clustering algorithms. However, recent advances in scRNA-seq technologies result in current datasets ranging from thousands to millions of cells.

Background: Glaucoma is a common ophthalmic neurodegenerative disease and the main cause of blindness, which seriously affects the life and work of patients, without more effective treatment for optic nerve damage. Bushen Huoxue (BSHX) method is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy that has been widely used as an alternative therapy to treat optic nerve damage in glaucoma patients with growing beneficial effect evidence, however, there is no current systematic review has addressed its effect for glaucoma. This study will conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the currently published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of BSHX method for the treatment of glaucoma, aim to assess the efficacy and safety of BSHX method for patients with glaucoma.

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head, an intractable but common disease that eventually triggers collapse of the femoral head, is characterized by increased osteoclast activity and markedly decreased osteoblast activity in the necrotic region of the femoral head. MicroRNA (miRNA)-214 (miR-214) may play important roles in vertebrate skeletal development by inhibiting osteoblast function by targeting activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) and promoting osteoclast function via phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN). This study revealed significantly increased levels of miR-214 in necrotic regions, with commensurate changes in the numbers of its target cells (both osteoblasts and osteoclasts).

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different doses of ginsenoside Rb1 (GRb1) pretreatment on spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion (SCII) in rats and explore the potential mechanisms about the expression of survivin protein after the intervention.

Methods: A total of 90 healthy adult Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into six groups: sham-operated (n = 15), SCII model (n = 15), and GRb1-treated groups (n = 60). The GRb1-treated group was divided into four subgroups: 10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg, 40 mg/kg, and 80 mg/kg (n = 15).

Walking is characterized by repetitive limb movements associated with highly structured patterns of muscle activity. The causal relationships between the muscle activities and hindlimb segments of walking are difficult to decipher. This study investigated these particular relationships and clarified whether they are correlated with speed to further understand the neuromuscular control pattern.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is the most prevalent form of knee joint disease and characterized by the progressive degeneration of articular cartilage. Although pathology of KOA remains unknown, genetic factors are considered to be the major cause. Asporin is a group of biologically active components of extracellular matrix (ECM) in articular cartilage, and asporin gene (ASPN) D-repeat polymorphism was reported to be associated with KOA.

Most studies have demonstrated that alcohol consumption is associated with decreased fertility. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of alcohol on pre-implantation embryo transport and/or early embryo development in the oviduct. We reported here that ethanol concentration-dependently suppressed the spontaneous motility of isolated human oviduct strips (EC50 50±6mM), which was largely attenuated in the present of L-NAME, a classical nitric oxide synthase(NOS) competitive inhibitor.

Objective: GTS-21, a selective α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist, has recently been established as a promising treatment for inflammation. However, the detailed molecular mechanism of GTS-21 in suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokine production is only partially explored. The study aimed to analyze cytokine expression suppressed by GTS-21 with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in vitro and to gain insights into the role of Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway in this process.
