The self-assembly behaviors of sodium oleate (NaOL), dodecylamine (DDA), and their mixtures in aqueous solution were systematically investigated by large-scale molecular dynamics simulations, respectively. The interaction mechanisms between the surfactants, as well as the surfactants and solvent, were revealed via the radial distribution function (RDF), cluster size, solvent-accessible surface area (SASA), hydrogen bond, and non-bond interaction energy. Results showed that the molecules more easily formed aggregates in mixed systems compared to pure systems, indicating higher surface activity.

With the rapid development of economic construction, styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS)-modified asphalt is being more and more widely used in highway engineering, but there are still many deficiencies in the process of its use. In order to further improve its performance for use, nano-organic palygorskite (A-Pal) and star-shaped SBS were compounded to obtain modified asphalt in this study. The high-temperature stability of SBS-modified asphalt was enhanced after incorporation with A-Pal for the high-temperature stability test by a dynamic shear rheometer.

Traditional chemical precipitation of phosphates from wastewater is somewhat inefficient because it produces some ultrafine hydroxyapatite particles that are difficult to settle. In this study, magnetic seeds with a core-shell structure were prepared by sulfation roasting for magnetic flocculation of those fine particles. Zeta potential measurements show that the hydroxyapatite particles are positively charged at pH 10, whereas the magnetic seeds are negatively charged.

TiO pillared montmorillonite (T/M) modifiers have been studied to alleviate the aging of asphalt pavement and degrade automobile exhaust, but the photocatalytic activity of ordinary TiO is not good enough. In this study, in order to improve the photocatalytic performance of T/M, different metal (Ce, Cu, Fe) doped modifiers were prepared based on T/M. Metal doped TiO pillared montmorillonite was prepared by the sol-gel method.

Core-shell magnetic seeds with certain adsorption capacity that were prepared by sulfated roasting, served as the core of a magnetic separation technology for purification of starch wastewater. XRD and SEM results indicate that magnetite's surface transformed to be porous α-FeO structure. Compared with magnetite particles, the specific surface area was significantly improved to be 8.

Three kinds of mineral-supported polyethylene glycol (PEG) as form-stable composite phase change materials (CPCMs) were prepared to choose the most suitable CPCMs in asphalt pavements for the problems of asphalt pavements rutting diseases and urban heat islands. The microstructure and chemical structure of CPCMs were characterized by SEM, FT-IR and XRD. Thermal properties of the CPCMs were determined by TG and DSC.
