Breast cancer is a high-incidence type of cancer for women. Early diagnosis plays a crucial role in the successful treatment of the disease and the effective reduction of deaths. In this paper, deep learning technology combined with ultrasound imaging diagnosis was used to identify and determine whether the tumors were benign or malignant.

[Comparative analysis of gene family size provides insight into the adaptive evolution of vertebrates].

Copy numbers of homologous gene families vary greatly among different species, which is caused by the differences in the rates of gene gain and loss. It is well known that gene copy number variation can be responsible for the phenotypic novelties of particular species. In this study, 64 species that represent the main vertebrate groups spanning evolutionary period of about 600 million years were selected and the homology of gene families across these species were established, thereby revealing the evolutionary patterns of gene family size in vertebrates.

Subcategorization of Ultrasonographic BI-RADS Category 4: Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy in Diagnosing Breast Lesions and Influence of Clinical Factors on Positive Predictive Value.

To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of subcategories 4a-4c of the second edition of the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) ultrasonography (US) lexicon, and to investigate whether clinical factors influence the positive predictive values (PPVs). Overall, 1240 breast lesions in 1227 women diagnosed on ultrasound as category 4 and with pathology were included. The PPV with 95% confidence interval (CI) was 13.

N-stearoyltyrosine dipotassium ameliorates high-fat diet-induced obesity in C57BL/6 mice.

N-stearoyltyrosine dipotassium (NST-2K) as a neuroprotective candidate is currently in preclinical studies in China. This study investigated the anti-obese effect of NST-2K in high-fat diet-induced obese (DIO) mice. The DIO mice were induced from male C57BL/6 mice by feeding high-fat diet for 11-weeks and treated orally with NST-2K for other 4 weeks.

Hydrothermal synthesis of perovskite bismuth ferrite crystallites with the help of NH4Cl.

Bismuth ferrite nanopowders were hydrothermally synthesized with and without NH4Cl for comparison. The effects of NaOH concentration, reaction temperature and reaction time on the product phases and morphologies were studied in detail. Pure BiFeO3 was synthesized in a wide hydrothermal condition with the help of NH4Cl.

New norsesquiterpene and sesquiterpene from a soft coral of the genus Nephthea.

A new norsesquiterpene nephthediol (1) and a new sesquiterpene nephthetetraol (2) were isolated with guaianediol (3) from a soft coral of the genus Nephthea. Their structures were deduced on the basis of spectroscopic methods.

Cytotoxic phenylpropanoids from carrot.

Carrot is widely used as a foodstuff. The active components such as beta-carotene and panaxynol have been studied by many researchers. In this investigation of nonpolar active components from carrot, a new phenylpropanoid, epilaserine oxide ( 3), was isolated along with six known compounds, laserine ( 1), 2-epilaserine ( 2), panaxynol ( 4), ginsenoyne K ( 5), (8 E)-1,8-heptadecadiene-4,6-diyne-3,10-diol ( 6), and vaginatin ( 7).

Inhibition of cell growth and induction of G1-phase cell cycle arrest in hepatoma cells by steroid extract from Meretrix meretrix.

In this study, we report that the steroid extract 5alpha, 8alpha-epidioxycholest-6-ene-3beta-ol (MME) from Meretrix meretrix has the ability to inhibit growth of hepatoma cells and to induce G1-phase cell cycle arrest in two human hepatoma cell lines, HepG2 and Hep3B. HepG2 cells were more sensitive than Hep3B to MME. The extract markedly up-regulated the expression of p53 and p21WAF1/CIP1 in HepG2, suggesting that MME-induced G1 phase cell cycle arrest in HepG2 might be p53-dependent.
