Although serum uric acid (SUA) is a risk factor for cardiometabolic outcome, but it remains unclear which patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) benefit the most from SUA lowering therapy (ULT). The association of SUA level, systemic inflammation and cardiometabolic risk is still unclear. The current study is aimed to examine whether SUA-associated cardiometabolic risk is modulated by systemic inflammation in CAD patients.

Background: Recent studies have suggested that adverse events associated with lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] might be modified by low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) or high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels, but whether LDL-C and hs-CRP jointly mediate the outcome of Lp(a) remains unknown in patients with coronary artery disease.

Methods And Results: A prospective study was conducted, enrolling consecutive 10 724 patients with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in 2013. The endpoint event was all-cause death.

Article Synopsis
  • Renal denervation (RDN) was tested in a sham-controlled trial in China to see if it can effectively lower blood pressure (BP) in hypertensive patients on medication.
  • The study involved 217 participants, showing that those who underwent RDN experienced a significantly greater reduction in 24-hour ambulatory systolic BP (by -13.0 mm Hg) compared to the placebo group (by -3.0 mm Hg).
  • Overall, RDN was found to be safe, as only one minor complication occurred, and it effectively reduced both ambulatory and office BP at the 6-month mark compared to the sham procedure.

Background: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) often co-occurs with depression, which adversely affects prognosis and increases medical costs, but effective treatment models are lacking, particularly in low-resource settings. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of an ACS and depression integrative care (IC) model compared to usual care (UC) in improving depression symptoms and other health outcomes among patients discharged for ACS in Chinese rural hospitals.

Methods: A multicentre, randomised controlled trial was conducted in sixteen rural county hospitals in China, from October 2014 to March 2017, to recruit consecutively all ACS patients aged 21 years and older after the disease stablised and before discharge.

Purpose: The association between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I) and cardiovascular risk in patients with coronary artery disease remains inconsistent. Recent investigations indicated potential dysfunctionality of HDL under inflammation. This study endeavors to explore whether the inflammatory status modifies the effects of HDL-C and ApoA-I on cardiovascular risk in individuals with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) patients combined with thrombocytopenia (TP) are usually considered to be at low ischemic risk, receiving less proper antiplatelet therapy. However, recent studies reported a paradoxical phenomenon that PCI patients with TP were prone to experience thrombotic events, while the mechanisms and future treatment remain unclear. We aim to investigate whether inflammation modifies platelet reactivity among these patients.
