Implementing Bundle Care in Major Abdominal Emergency Surgery: Long-Term Mortality and Comprehensive Complication Index.

Background: Major abdominal emergency surgery (MAES) has a high risk of postoperative mortality and a high complication rate. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the implementation of a perioperative care bundle reduced long-term mortality and the Comprehensive Complication Index (CCI) after MAES.

Methods: This study was a single-centre retrospective cohort study.

Prevention of parastomal hernia using mesh in patients undergoing rectum extirpation.

Introduction: Developing a parastomal hernia can lead to emergency surgery and cause discomfort. Placing a pro-phylactic mesh around the ostomy may potentially prevent hernias from developing. Randomised clinical trials and reviews have reported contradictory results from this prophylactic procedure with different rates of hernias and success.

[Laparoscopy-guided liver abscess drainage of multiple large formations].

A 50-year-old woman was admitted with abdominal pain, vomiting, fever and diarrhoea. She had increased white blood cell count and increased level of liver enzymes. A CT scan revealed 13 abscesses in the liver and tests showed Streptococcus angin-osus.
