[Epidemiological peculiarities of working day losses among military personnel of Ukrainian Armed Forces].

Peculiarities of working day losses caused by infectious and parasite diseases among military personnel of Ukrainian Armed Forces in the period of formation, reorganization, reformation and restructuring of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 1991-2008 are defined in the article based on retrospective epidemiological analysis.

[The place of endovideosurgical interventions in treatment of inguinal hernias].

Endovideosurgical hernioplasty was performed in 3020 patients. Complex forms of inguinal hernias were diagnosed in 280 of them. These forms included: bilateral and combined inguinal hernias, inguinoscrotal hernias, sliding hernias, fixed and irreducible inguinal hernias, recurrent inguinal hernias after traditional herniorrhaphy and recurrent hernias after endovideosurgical hernioplasty.

[Z-form of intraphage DNA].

The bacteriophage lambda gt10 DNA containing an insertion of 20 pairs of GC-bases capable of being arranged as Z-form was cloned. Two independent methodological approaches based on the main properties of Z-form were used to study the shape of the insertion: formation of transition bridges composed of unpaired nucleotides between left-rotating Z-forms and right-rotating B-forms of helix (j-domain) and high immunogenic activity of Z-form. O-beta-diethylaminoethylhydroxyamine (OHA), an analogue of hydroxylamine, is capable of reacting specifically with unpaired cytidines.

[The structural characteristics of the polyribosomes in the rat liver studied by means of a tritium label].

Polyribosomes isolated from the rat liver in a medium with low ionic strength were irradiated by "hot" tritium atoms under conditions providing for the replacement of the hydrogen atoms located at the surface of polyribosomes by tritium. After fractionation of such polyribosomes, the radioactivity of the obtained fractions was measured and their proportions were calculated for the total surface accessible for the tritium atoms (in %), as well as their specific radioactivity. The material loosely associated with the polyribosomes and containing amino acyl-tRNA-synthetases is more radioactive than rRNA and r-proteins, especially concerning their specific radioactivity.

[The formation of an artificial bladder from the intestines].

Basing on the long-term experience in radical surgery of 252 patients with invasive bladder cancer, the authors come to the conclusion that the establishment of intestinal bladder with postcystectomy recovery of physiological uresis is the most proper therapeutic approach. Extra- or intraperitoneal position of the transplant was decided upon regarding the type and stage of cystectomy and prior methods of derivation. The techniques of one- and multistage operations are presented.

[The effect of pathogenetic therapy on the expression of endogenous intoxication in patients with chronic glomerulonephritis].

The content of medium-sized molecules (MSM) in the blood serum was measured in 52 patients with exacerbation of chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN) given pathogenetic therapy. All the patients manifested an initial rise of the content of MSM. Administration of cytostatics and (or) glucocorticoids led to the regression of the nephrotic syndrome in 32 patients.

[The diagnostic potentials of modern research methods in the late period of complicated trauma to the thoracic spine].

The authors present the results of the examination of 70 patients with complicated injuries of the thoracic spine making use of clinical and electrophysiologic methods of investigations, axial computer tomography of the spinal column and of the spinal cord, thermography and ultrasound scanning of the spinal cord. The substantiation for using one or the other method is given in order to determine the indications for a repeated surgery. To make a reliable evaluation of the degree and the extent of the spinal cord lesion the authors prefer to make a complex examination of the patients using functional and organic-structural methods of investigation.

[Determination of the accessible surface of lysozyme and human serum albumin molecules by the total tritium labeling method].

Amino acids composing an accessible surface of lysozyme and human serum albumin (HSA) globules were determined by the total tritium labelling method. A good correlation between our data on the distribution of the tritium label for the lysozyme molecule and X-ray data on the tertiary structure for this macromolecule was received. Lysozyme was used as a standard for determining the accessible surface of the globule albumin.

[Study of the three-dimensional structure of proteins by means of tritium labeling. II. Intramolecular distribution of tritium in the N-terminal part of myoglobin and the tertiary structure of protein].

The possible use of the method of 3H-label introduction by means of a 3H-atom beam for investigating the three-dimensional structure (surface) of proteins was studied. The intramolecular distribution of tritium in the N-terminal part of 3H-labelled sperm-whale myoglobin was studied. The results obtained are in good agreement with the X-ray analysis data on the polypeptide chain of the protein molecule.

[Study of three-dimensional structure of proteins by means of tritium labeling. I. Free amino acids as a model of residues in an unfolded polypeptide chain].

Probabilities of the incorporation of tritium label into various amino acids with alanine as a standard have been determined by "bombing" solid targets with a 3H-atom beam (2 000 K). The results show that amino acids can be used with sufficient accuracy as models of amino acid residues in a polypeptide chain under 100%, accessibility. The resulting coefficients, if taken into consideration in the analysis of intramolecular distribution of tritium in short tryptic peptides of TMV protein, will yield an equiprobable distribution in the case when the label has been introduced into a peptide.

[Unilateral lesion of the optic nerve in cranio-cerebral injuries].

The authors analyse the clinical picture and the results of nonoperative and surgical treatment of unilateral traumatic compression of the optic nerve in 23 patients with closed craniocerebral trauma. The principle role in the pathogenesis of the damage to the optic nerve is attributed to its functional compression within the optic canal as the result of impaired intratruncal circulation and edema of the nerve. This mechanism of the compression may in some cases serve as the reason for undertaking decompression of the optic nerve by resection of the superior wall of the optic canal.

[Syndrome of femorolumbar extension rigidity].

Under observation there were 43 patients aged 10 to 22 years and showing the syndrome of femorolumbar extension rigidity. On surgical verification it was found that 5 pateints had productive epiduritis, 20 protrusions and prolapses of the discs complicated with productive epiduritis in the lumbar division of the vertebral column; 11 had tumours in the lumbar, 3 in the thoracic, 3 in the cervical divisions of the vertebral column. The syndrome was frequently accompanied by dysplasia of the lumbar division.

[Traumatic pneumocephalus].

Five patients with traumatic pneumocephalus are reported. A case with traumatic ventricular and subarachnoidal pneumocephalus resulting from damage to the sphenoidal sinus is described. Treatment of traumatic pneumocephalus is nonoperative is nonoperative in most cases.
