Two months after total endoprosthesis of the hip (Spotorno) a 60-year-old obese female patient complained about increasing hip pain. Costly diagnostic measures could not clarify the cause. Analgesic therapy administered with local cortisone injections was not satisfactory.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOriented mesostructured surfactant-silica nanocomposite thin films with a 2D hexagonal mesostructure of cylindrical micelles were prepared by evaporation-induced self-assembly using two different nonionic Brij surfactants and studied by small-angle X-ray scattering in symmetric reflection (SRSAXS) and grazing incidence (GISAXS) geometries. A novel SRSAXS evaluation approach was applied that allowed a good fitting of the SRSAXS data over almost the whole range of scattering vectors. Aside from the cylinder radius and the lattice parameter, the approach provided accurate values for the polydispersity of the micelles, lattice distortions, and preferred orientation.

During EISA, the organic monomers partition within the hydrophobic domains of a lamellar mesophase. In-situ polymerization via a free radical process results in a 1-2 nm thick hydrogel phase sandwiched between layers of silica oriented parallel to the substrate surface.

The result is generalized to arbitrary derivatives of higher order of the autocorrelation function and to arbitrary projections of the scattering intensity (including slit collimation). This inverse transformation offers an elegant way to investigate the impact of certain features, e.

A non-union or a posttraumatic paralysis of the radial nerve may be indications for external fixation as well as fractures associated with multiple injuries. Further indications include osteitis, infected non-union and comminuted fracture.

A group of 128 elderly patients (> 75 years) suffering from peritrochanteric fractures of the femur were treated by the gamma nailing procedure. Results were 81% very good to good and 7% fair. The lethality rate was 8% for the first 4 months.

Concerning the initial condition there was no significant difference between the three therapy groups of the study.
