Advanced atherosclerosis is the pathological basis for acute cardiovascular events, with significant residual risk of recurrent clinical events despite contemporary treatment. The death of foamy macrophages is a main contributor to plaque progression, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing demonstrated that massive iron accumulation in advanced atherosclerosis promoted foamy macrophage ferroptosis, particularly in low expression of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) foamy macrophages.

Genomic differences point to the possibility that these subtypes represent distinct diseases. Elucidation of the specific distribution of T cell subsets, critical to cancer immunity, across these diseases could provide better insights into the unique biology of BTC subtypes and help identify potential precision medicine strategies.

Chemotherapeutic resistance is a major obstacle to the effectiveness of cisplatin-based chemotherapy for gastric cancer (GC), leading to treatment failure and poor survival rates. However, the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Our study demonstrated that the transcription factor myocyte enhancer factor 2A (MEF2A) plays a role in chemotherapeutic drug resistance by regulating the transcription of PGC1α and KEAP1, promoting mitochondrial biogenesis.

Electroacupuncture (EA) has oncosuppressive and immunomodulatory properties. Here, we investigated the antitumor effects of EA and explored the feasibility of EA combined with anti-PD-1 in MSS colorectal cancer.

Biliary tract cancer (BTC) is a highly malignant tumor that originates from bile duct epithelium and is categorized into intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA), perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA), distal cholangiocarcinoma (dCCA) and gallbladder cancer (GBC) according to the anatomic location. Inflammatory cytokines generated by chronic infection led to an inflammatory microenvironment which influences the carcinogenesis of BTC. Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a multifunctional cytokine secreted by kupffer cells, tumor-associated macrophages, cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and cancer cells, plays a central role in tumorigenesis, angiogenesis, proliferation, and metastasis in BTC.

Percutaneous vertebroplasty and percutaneous kyphoplasty are effective methods to treat acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures that can quickly provide patients with pain relief, prevent further height loss of the vertebral body, and help correct kyphosis. Many clinical studies have investigated the characteristics of bone cement. Bone cement is a biomaterial injected into the vertebral body that must have good biocompatibility and biosafety.

Although immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have gained much attention in managing cancer, only a minority of patients, especially those with tumors that have been classified as immunologically "cold" such as microsatellite stable (MSS) colorectal cancers (CRC), experience clinical benefit from ICIs. Surprisingly, interleukin-17 (IL-17) and its primary source Th17 are enriched in CRC and inversely associated with patient outcome. Our previous study revealed that IL-17A could upregulate programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression and impede the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Mitochondrial homeostasis depends to a great extent on the coordination between mitophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis, the deregulation of which causes various human diseases, including cancer. There is accumulating evidence that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are critical in predicting the prognosis and immune response in carcinoma.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Increasing evidence has demonstrated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a crucial part in maintaining genomic instability. We therefore identified genome instability-related lncRNAs and constructed a prediction signature for early stage lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) as well in order for classification of high-risk group of patients and improvement of individualized therapies.
Methods: Early stage LUAD RNA-seq and clinical data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were randomly divided into training set ( = 177) and testing set ( = 176).
