Background: Momordica cochinchinensis is a dried and mature seed of Cucurbitaceae plants, which has the effect of dispersing nodules, detumescence, attacking poison, and treating sores, and is used in the treatment of tumors in the clinic. P-hydroxylcinnamaldehyde (CMSP) is an ethanol extract of cochinchina momordica seed (CMS). Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are gradually being annotated as important regulators of multiple cellular processes. Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the deadliest cancers, and long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to be the important regulators during the occurrence and development of GC. The present study identified a novel and functional lncRNA in GC, named NR038975, which was confirmed to be markedly upregulated in the Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) dataset and our independent cohort of GC tissues. As esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers in Asia, it is crucial to uncover its underlying molecular mechanisms that support its development and progression. Several articles have reported that microRNA (miR)‑485‑5p inhibits the malignant phenotype in a number of cancer types, such as lung, gastric and breast cancer, but to the best of our knowledge, its function in ESCC has not been studied in depth until the present study.
