This study investigated the effects of inner mitochondrial membrane peptidase 2-like (Immp2l) deletion on mitochondrial apoptosis and mitochondrial autophagy under hyperglycemic conditions. The middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model was established in wild-type (WT) mice and Immp2l mice; animals were then exposed to hyperglycemic (induced using 1% streptozotocin) and normoglycemic conditions. Tissues were collected at various time points post-reperfusion.

Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is one of the most lethal malignant tumors for which there is no effective treatment. There are an increasing number of studies on herbal medicine for treating malignant tumors, and the classic botanical medicine Digitalis and its active ingredients for treating heart failure and arrhythmias have been revealed to have significant antitumor efficacy against a wide range of malignant tumors. However, the main components of Digitalis and the molecular mechanisms of its anti-ATC effects have not been extensively studied.

In this work, we developed a library of sulfated glycomimetic polypeptides with a high sulfated degree (up to 99%) via a click reaction and sulfation modification, enabling control over the helicity, molecular weight, rigidity, and side-chain structure. Their potentials as the inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 and common enterovirus were investigated, and the structure-activity relationship was explored in detail. The in vitro results revealed the crucial role of α-helical conformation and sulfated sugar since all the sulfated glycopolypeptides exhibited outperformed activity in suppressing SARS-CoV-2 infection with the inhibition efficiency up to 85%.

Objective: We previously reported that mutations in inner mitochondrial membrane peptidase 2-like (Immp2l) increase infarct volume, enhance superoxide production, and suppress mitochondrial respiration after transient cerebral focal ischemia and reperfusion injury. The present study investigated the impact of heterozygous Immp2l mutation on mitochondria function after ischemia and reperfusion injury in mice.

Methods: Mice were subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion for 1 h followed by 0, 1, 5, and 24 h of reperfusion.

To control the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a variety of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines have been developed. However, the rapid mutations of SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein may reduce the protective efficacy of the existing vaccines which is mainly determined by the level of neutralizing antibodies targeting S. In this study, we screened prevalent S mutations and constructed 124 pseudotyped lentiviral particles carrying these mutants.

Background: Cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CI/RI) contributes to the process of autophagy. Huangqi-Honghua combination (HQ-HH) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combination that has been widely used in the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases in China. The role of autophagy in HQ-HH-mediated treatment of CI/RI is unclear.

Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BYHWD) is used to promote blood circulation and is widely used in Chinese clinical practice for the treatment and prevention of ischemic cerebral vascular diseases. However, the mechanism and active compounds of BYHWD used to treat ischemic stroke are not well understood. The current study aimed to identify the potential active components of BYHWD and explore its mechanism using network pharmacology and bioinformatics analyses.

The incidence of ischemic stroke, a life-threatening condition in humans, amongst Asians is high and the prognosis is poor. In the absence of effective therapeutics, traditional Chinese medicines have been used that have shown promising results. It is crucial to identify traditional Chinese medicine formulas that protect the blood-brain barrier, which is damaged by an ischemic stroke.

Objective: To explore the role of differential diagnosis of distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) in pseudohypacusis and exaggerated hearing loss.

Method: Detection and analysis of DPOAE were made by ILO96 Otodynamics Analyzer in the patients complaining of post-traumatic hearing loss and in cooperative in pure tone threshold (PTT) examination.

Result: The detective results of DPOAE in 102 patients (121 ears) in cooperative in PTT examination revealed that pseudohypacusis was 66.
