Despite significant progress in managing multiple myeloma (MM) in recent years, certain patients still have a short duration of therapeutic response, often relapsing within 18 months. These patients typically have high‑risk genetic mutations and may show little to no response to current treatments, highlighting the need for further exploration of optimal therapeutic targets for MM. B‑cell maturation antigen (BCMA), highly expressed in mature B lymphocytes and plasma cells and upregulated in MM, is a promising therapeutic target.

Cardiac remodeling is an end-stage manifestation of multiple cardiovascular diseases, and microRNAs are involved in a variety of posttranscriptional regulatory processes. miR-363-5p targeting Thrombospondin3 (THBS3) has been shown to play an important regulatory role in vascular endothelial cells, but the roles of these two in cardiac remodeling are unknown. Firstly, we established an in vivo model of cardiac remodeling by transverse aortic narrow (TAC), and then we stimulated a human cardiomyocyte cell line (AC16) and a human cardiac fibroblast cell line (HCF) using 1 μmol/L angiotensin II (Ang II) to establish an in vitro model of cardiac hypertrophy and an in vitro model of myocardial fibrosis, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Drought significantly impacts the adsorption and mobility of cadmium ions on the montmorillonite surface, particularly under extreme drought conditions.
  • Molecular dynamics simulations revealed that lower moisture levels enhance the strength and quantity of cadmium ion adsorption while reducing their movement due to factors such as compressed electric double layers and increased ion interactions.
  • The findings challenge existing views on heavy metal interactions with soil minerals and emphasize the importance of water management strategies, like irrigation, prior to heavy metal remediation efforts.

Soil microorganisms play vital roles in regulating multiple ecosystem functions. Recent studies have revealed that the rare microbial taxa (with extremely low relative abundances, which are still largely ignored) are also crucial in maintaining the health and biodiversity of the soil and may respond differently to environmental pressure. However, little is known about the soil community structures of abundant and rare taxa and their assembly processes in different soil layers on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP).

The increase in intense tropical cyclone (TC) activity across the western North Pacific (WNP) has often been attributed to a warming ocean. However, it is essential to recognize that the tropical WNP region already boasts high temperatures, and a marginal increase in oceanic warmth due to global warming does not exert a significant impact on the potential for TCs to intensify. Here we report that the weakened vertical wind shear is the primary driver behind the escalating trend in TC intensity within the summer monsoon trough of the tropical WNP, while local ocean surface and subsurface thermodynamic factors play a minor role.
