Article Synopsis
  • Hallux rigidus (HR) is a common type of arthritis affecting the big toe, and cheilectomy is a surgery that helps relieve pain by removing bone spurs from the joint.
  • This study reviewed cases from 2007 to 2021 to understand factors leading to surgery failure, with a focus on preoperative pain scores and patient outcomes.
  • It found that patients with a preoperative visual analog pain score (VAS) higher than 7.0 were more likely to experience failure in the surgery, indicating that higher pain levels before the operation can predict poor results.

Two-portal posterior ankle or hindfoot arthroscopy is an alternative option to open surgery in cases of posterior ankle impingement, that showed similar results but with less morbidity and faster recovery. There has been increasing interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
