Cantharidin is a potent natural toxin and has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat cancers and various ailments such as rabies or psoriasis. However, improper use of cantharidin can easily lead to poisoning. The ability to dynamically manipulate the optoelectronic and magnetic properties in functional materials under nonequilibrium conditions is essential for the advancement of quantum technologies and energy-related applications. Here, we demonstrate a novel method to regulate the optoelectronic and magnetic properties of YCoO, a representative perovskite oxide, using ultrafast vortex laser pulses coupled with nonlinear phonon interactions. Vortex light, characterized by its helical phase front and topological charge, allows selective excitation of infrared phonon modes, enabling anisotropic lattice distortions and precise modulation of material properties.

Piezocatalyst-enabled sonopiezoelectric therapy offers noninvasive treatment with high spatiotemporal selectivity, yet existing piezocatalysts are limited by suboptimal efficacy, cancer cell resistance to oxidative stress, and biosafety concerns. Here, hafnia (HfO), one of the only few FDA-approved inorganic nanomaterials for clinical trials, is identified as a promising piezocatalyst with high translational potential for sonopiezoelectric and enzymatic PANoptosis-boosted nanocatalytic therapy. Specifically, engineered transition metal-substituted HfO nanocatalysts are synthesized to optimize piezoelectric and enzyme-mimicking activities.

Grassland ecosystems, critical for ecosystem services like forage supply, face threats from climate change and grazing pressure. This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of forage supply and grazing intensity in the Yellow River Source Area (YRSA) from 2000 to 2020, focusing on the relative contributions of climate factors and grazing. Our result revealed that forage supply exhibited a southeast-to-northwest decline and increased slightly overall, with variability among grassland types.
