Seawater-immersed wounds can be threatened by high pH, high permeability and infection, which may lead to the development of chronic wounds. The present study develops an aggregation strategy for the rapid preparation of α-lipoic acid (LA)-based bioadhesives at room temperature with strong and underwater adhesion for emergency treatment of trauma in maritime activities. The bioadhesives are fabricated from the aggregation of LA, MXene and Ag through their supramolecular interactions, which can be rapidly formed in mild environments, showing strong interface adhesion without adhesive failure caused by depolymerization, while exhibiting mechanical self-reinforcing.

Background: In recent years, the incidence of patients with colorectal neuroendocrine neoplasms (CRNENs) has been continuously increasing. When diagnosed, most patients have distant metastases. Liver metastasis (LM) is the most common type of distant metastasis, and the prognosis is poor once it occurs.

In this study, the influence of tannic acid (TA)/soluble potato starch (PS) mass ratio and PS concentration on TA/PS complexes and emulsions stabilized by TA/PS complexes were studied. The size, hydrophobicity and emulsifying properties of TA/PS complexes were all controlled by TA/PS mass ratio and PS concentration. In detail, the hydrophobicity of PS (θ = 48°) improved after complexing with TA to form TA/PS complexes (θ = 64°).

Mesenchymal stromal cell-derived small extracellular vesicles (MSC-sEVs) are pivotal for the curative effects of mesenchymal stromal cells, but their translation into clinical products is hindered by the technical challenges of scaled production and purification. Ultrafiltration, a pressure-driven membrane separation method, is well known as an efficient, scalable, and cost-effective approach for bioseparation. However, there has been little study so far that comprehensively evaluates the potential application of ultrafiltration for scaled sEV isolation and purification.

Background: Gut microbiota (GM) is associated with both the occurrence and development of pancreatic cancer (PC), and immune cells potentially play a role in this process. This study sought to evaluate the causative effect of GM on PC and to ascertain possible immune cell mediators.

Methods: The study primarily employed a two-step, two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the causal relationship between GM and PC within the European population, placing particular emphasis on the application of the inverse variance weighted (IVW) approach.

Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), as one of the key components of the genetic factors, is important for disease detection and early screening of hereditary diseases. Current SNP genotyping methods require laboratory instruments or long operating times. To facilitate the diagnosis of hereditary diseases, we developed a new method referred to as the LwaCas13a-based SNP genotyping platform (Cas13a platform), which is useful for detecting disease-related SNPs.

  • Recipient-area perifollicular erythema (RPE) is a postoperative complication that can negatively affect hair transplantation outcomes by increasing hair shedding and decreasing graft survival rates.
  • A study involving 1090 participants found varying degrees of RPE, with significant associations to folliculitis and the timing of postoperative hair washing.
  • Key findings suggest that timely hair washing post-surgery and managing folliculitis could help reduce the risk of developing RPE, leading to better graft growth results.

In reconstructive and plastic surgery, random-pattern skin flaps (RPSF) are often used to correct defects. However, their clinical usefulness is limited due to their susceptibility to necrosis, especially on the distal side of the RPSF. This study validates the protective effect of celastrol (CEL) on flap viability and explores in terms of underlying mechanisms of action.

Article Synopsis
  • Actinidia arguta is a widely distributed species known for its small, smooth fruit, rapid softening, and strong cold tolerance, distinguished from the cultivated Actinidia chinensis.
  • Researchers created a detailed genome assembly of A. arguta, which is 2.77 Gb long and organized into 116 pseudo-chromosomes, revealing two distinct geographic groups based on evolutionary divergences.
  • The study identified three key genes that contribute to fruit softening and explored the genetic basis of traits related to sexual dimorphism, providing a foundation for future research and agricultural enhancement of this species.

Large amounts of microplastics accumulated in the soil of agricultural fields with the rapid development of mulch agriculture. The enrichment of microplastics endangered the growth of crops and food security, and it also posed ecological risks. In this study, we investigated microplastics in a typical agriculture area of Yan' an City, in the loess hilly gully area of China.

We report a 15-year-old Chinese girl who presented with intermittent seizure episodes and had been misdiagnosed as having idiopathic epilepsy 5 years previously. Laboratory testing revealed hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, and a high parathyroid hormone (PTH) concentration. She was subsequently shown to have pseudohypoparathyroidism type Ib (PHPIb) based on the results of methylation analysis of the gene, which showed a loss of methylation of the differentially methylated regions (DMR) of , , and ; and a gain of methylation of the DMR of the GNAS-NESP55 region.

Eye tracking provides valuable insight for analyzing visual attention and underlying thinking progress through the observation of eye movements. Here, a transparent, flexible and ultra-persistent electrostatic sensing interface is proposed for realizing active eye tracking (AET) system based on the electrostatic induction effect. Through a triple-layer structure combined with a dielectric bilayer and a rough-surface Ag nanowire (Ag NW) electrode layer, the inherent capacitance and interfacial trapping density of the electrostatic interface has been strongly enhanced, contributing to an unprecedented charge storage capability.

Efficient removal of air pollution caused by volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particulate matter (PM) through distributed energy collected from the environment is an effective strategy to achieve both energy conservation and better air quality. Herein, a curtain purification system based on a rabbit fur-based rotary triboelectric nanogenerator (RR-TENG) and a collaborative photocatalysis technology was designed for indoor air purification. The high electrostatic field from RR-TENG enhances formaldehyde adsorption, while it can also efficiently adsorb PM simultaneously.

Stem cell and cell therapies, particularly autologous cell therapies, are becoming a common practice. However, in order for these technologies to achieve wide-scale clinical application, the prohibitively high cost associated with these therapies must be addressed through creative engineering. Membranes can be a disruptive technology to reshape the bioprocessing and manufacture of cellular products and significantly reduce the cost of autologous cell therapies.

Current plastic and reconstructive surgery computational techniques are not precise and take a long time to perform. Therefore, these limitations reduced the adoption of computational techniques. Although computer-aided surgical preparation systems may help to enhance clinical results, minimize operating time and costs, they are too complicated and require detailed manual information, which restricts their usage in doctor-patient communication and clinical decision-making.

Conventional approaches to studying fish kinematics pose a great challenge for the real-time monitoring of fish motion kinematics. Here, a multifunctional fish-wearable data snooping platform (FDSP) for studying fish kinematics is demonstrated based on an air sac triboelectric nanogenerator (AS-TENG) with antibacterial coating. The AS-TENG not only can harvest energy from fish swimming but also serves as the self-powered sensory module to monitor the swimming behavior of the fish.
