Tattoo-induced immunologic reaction to red inks.

A 43-year-old male presented with pruritic nodular lesions in the red dye area of his leg tattoo, which developed 4 weeks after its application. Patch tests were performed using a standard series, and the inks used by the tattooist were tested semi-open. Tests identified a sensitization to 2 inks containing an azo-organic dye (Pigment Red 170), diketopyrrolopyrrole (Pigment Red 254), and copper phthalocyanine (Pigment Blue 15).

Travel-associated human trichinellosis in Portugal.

Trichinellosis is an emerging or re-emerging foodborne parasitic zoonotic disease caused by nematodes of the genus . It represents a global food safety problem and a public health hazard. This case report aims to describe the first case of human trichinellosis in Portugal since the creation of the European Union surveillance system.

Dermatitis herpetiformis: should direct immunofluorescence be the only diagnostic criterion?

We describe a 7-year-old boy with dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) diagnosed on clinical and histologic evidence, negative direct immunofluorescence (DIF) findings for junctional IgA deposits in uninvolved skin, positive IgA endomysial and gliadin antibodies, and jejunal biopsy revealing a gluten-sensitive enteropathy. Treatment with dapsone led to the disappearance of cutaneous lesions and pruritus within 48 hours. Demonstration of IgA immune deposits in the dermal papillae has been the only acceptable criterion for the diagnosis of dermatitis herpetiformis.
