Artificial neural networks (ANNs) ability to learn, correct errors, and transform a large amount of raw data into beneficial medical decisions for treatment and care has increased in popularity for enhanced patient safety and quality of care. Therefore, this paper reviews the critical role of ANNs in providing valuable insights for patients' healthcare decisions and efficient disease diagnosis. We study different types of ANNs in the existing literature that advance ANNs' adaptation for complex applications.

Article Synopsis
  • Biometrics measures unique physical and behavioral traits, like fingerprints, which are more reliable than traditional ID methods.
  • Digital fingerprint images can suffer from issues like scanner noise and skin condition, affecting their quality.
  • A new enhancement method combining diffusion-coherence and 2D log-Gabor filters improves fingerprint image quality by reducing noise and overcoming previous filter limitations, with results tested on the FVC database.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses how biosensors on the human body create a wireless body area network (WBAN) to monitor various physiological metrics such as temperature and brain activity.
  • Deep learning can leverage the data from these sensors to assist in tracking health issues like respiratory problems and fevers.
  • The article also presents a proposed deep learning method for detecting COVID-19 using this WBAN while addressing challenges of imperfect communication between sensors and the central unit due to environmental interference.
