Perinatal atrial flutter: different therapeutic outcomes in two case reports.

Atrial flutter is a rare but potentially lethal arrhythmia, characterized by a rapid regular atrial rate, accompanied by variable degrees of atrioventricular block. Two cases of neonatal atrial flutter are described. The first case was diagnosed in utero at 38 weeks of gestation and converted to sinus rhythm by electric shock on the eighth day of life.

Transient cardiomyopathy secondary to carbon monoxide poisoning.

A 4-year-old boy was found unconscious due to carbon monoxide poisoning, and required cardiopulmonary resuscitation, mechanical ventilation and inotropic support. Examination revealed cerebral edema, myocardial injury with left ventricular dilatation, depressed contractility and positive biomarkers. Complete recovery was seen at 4-month follow-up.

[Calculation of the pulmonary to systemic flow ratio using echo-Doppler in septal defects--correlation with oximetry].

Objective: 1. local validation of a protocol of measurement of pulmonary to systemic flow ratio (QP/QS) by echo-Doppler in children with septal defects; 2. to assess continuous wave Doppler efficacy mainly in those patients where peak pulmonary flow velocity was beyond the Nyquist limit of pulsed Doppler.
