Metal/semiconductor superlattices represent a fascinating frontier in materials science and nanotechnology, where alternating layers of metals and semiconductors are precisely engineered at the atomic and nano-scales. Traditionally, epitaxial metal/semiconductor superlattice growth requires constituent materials from the same family, exhibiting identical structural symmetry and low lattice mismatch. Here, beyond this conventional constraint, a novel class of epitaxial lattice-matched metal/semiconductor superlattices is introduced that utilizes refractory hexagonal elemental transition metals and wide-bandgap III-nitride semiconductors.

Plasmon resonance represents the collective oscillation of free electron gas density and enables enhanced light-matter interactions in nanoscale dimensions. Traditionally, the classical Drude model describes plasmonic excitation, wherein plasma frequency exhibits no spatial dispersion. Purpose: Anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) therapy is a standard of care in recurrent and/or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (RMHNSCC). Weak binding of carbohydrates with protein receptors possesses serious drawbacks in the advancement of therapeutics; however, the development of strategies for multipoint interactions between carbohydrates and protein can overcome these challenges. One such method is developed in this work where glycopolymer- silica nanoparticles with a large number of carbohydrate units are prepared for the interactions with multiple binding sites of the protein. Among electrochemical energy storage (EES) technologies, rechargeable batteries (RBs) and supercapacitors (SCs) are the two most desired candidates for powering a range of electrical and electronic devices. A robust method was developed using LC-ESI-MS/MS-based identification and quantification of 103 fortified pesticides in a mango fruit drink. Variations in QuEChERS extraction (without buffer, citrate, and/or acetate buffered) coupled with dispersive clean-up combinations were evaluated. Results showed 5 mL dilution and citrate buffered QuEChERS extraction with anhydrous (anhy) MgSO clean-up gave acceptable recovery for 100 pesticides @ 1 μg mL fortification.

We present the (numerically) exact phase diagram of a magnetic polymer on the Sierpińsky gasket embedded in three dimensions using the renormalization group method. We report distinct phases of the magnetic polymer, including paramagnetic swollen, ferromagnetic swollen, paramagnetic collapsed, and ferromagnetic collapsed states. By evaluating critical exponents associated with phase transitions, we located the phase boundaries between different phases.

Transcriptional deregulation is a hallmark of many cancers and is exemplified by genomic amplifications of the MYC family of oncogenes, which occur in at least 20% of all solid tumors in adults. Targeting of transcriptional cofactors and the transcriptional cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK9) has emerged as a therapeutic strategy to interdict deregulated transcriptional activity including oncogenic MYC. Importance: Patients with locally advanced non-human papillomavirus (HPV) head and neck cancer (HNC) carry an unfavorable prognosis. Chemoradiotherapy (CRT) with cisplatin or anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antibody improves overall survival (OS) of patients with stage III to IV HNC, and preclinical data suggest that a small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor dual EGFR and ERBB2 (formerly HER2 or HER2/neu) inhibitor may be more effective than anti-EGFR antibody therapy in HNC.

Low hole mobility of nitride semiconductors is a significant impediment to realizing their high-efficiency device applications. Scandium nitride (ScN), an emerging rocksalt indirect band gap semiconductor, suffers from low hole mobility. Utilizing the Boltzmann transport formalism including spin-orbit coupling, here we show the dominating role of ionized impurity scattering in reducing the hole mobility in ScN thin films.
