As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integral to various sectors, its potential to enhance accessibility in digital services is of growing interest. This paper explores the influence of AI systems (AIS) on accessibility compliance, specifically within the context of Norway's national e-health service provider Norsk helsenett (NHN). Through a qualitative analysis, we assess how AISs are deployed in frontend programming, user interface design, and accessibility testing at NHN.

The paper discusses the role of standards to achieve the objective of Universal Design, with the case of equal access for elderly people in the digital society. The concrete background is the launching of 4 standards regarding different aspects of the digital society at present and in the future, their consequences for elderly persons and persons with disabilities and how to ensure diversity and inclusion for all through Universal Design. Our hypothesis suggests that well-conceived standards, developed collaboratively by all stakeholders, including individuals with various functional disabilities, could be an essential tool in ensuring that Universal Design is an integral part of technological development.

This study reviews the extent to which Universal Design of digitalized work tools is not only a useful, but a necessary principle to support inclusion in an ageing workforce. But Universal Design must be understood and implemented in a broader sense than "classic" adaptation. It includes areas like services, digitalization training and user interface between mainstream and assistive technologies.

It discusses current definitions of welfare technology and suggests a typology of this technology based on the different definitions.
