The composition of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) plays an important role in controlling Li-electrolyte reactions, but the underlying cause of SEI composition differences between electrolytes remains unclear. Many studies correlate SEI composition with the bulk solvation of Li ions in the electrolyte, but this correlation does not fully capture the interfacial phenomenon of SEI formation. Here, we provide a direct connection between SEI composition and Li-ion solvation by forming SEIs using polar substrates that modify interfacial solvation structures.

Introduction: Understanding prothrombotic factors is important in vascular surgery for surgical planning, preoperative evaluation, and post-operative management. The purpose of this study was to investigate ethnicity-based differences in coagulation between East Asian and Western cohorts by comparing patency rates after infrainguinal bypass surgery.

Evidence Acquisition: A review of infrainguinal bypass patients was conducted for East Asian (including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) and Western (North American and European) studies between 1990 and 2015 within the Journal of Vascular Surgery.

The mechanical and dynamic properties of developing networks near the gel point are susceptible to the distribution of clusters coexisting with percolating networks. The distribution of cluster numbers follows a broad power law, wrapped by a cutoff function that rapidly decays at a characteristic size. The form of the cutoff function has been speculated based on known results from lattice percolation and, in certain cases, solved.

Designing a stable solid-electrolyte interphase on a Li anode is imperative to developing reliable Li metal batteries. Herein, we report a suspension electrolyte design that modifies the Li solvation environment in liquid electrolytes and creates inorganic-rich solid-electrolyte interphases on Li. LiO nanoparticles suspended in liquid electrolytes were investigated as a proof of concept.

1,2-Dimethoxyethane (DME) is a common electrolyte solvent for lithium metal batteries. Various DME-based electrolyte designs have improved long-term cyclability of high-voltage full cells. However, insufficient Coulombic efficiency at the Li anode and poor high-voltage stability remain a challenge for DME electrolytes.

Background: Composite reconstruction with a dermal substitute followed by skin graft is sometimes used for reconstructing high-quality skin while preserving donor sites. This often necessitates 2 separate procedures, additional general anesthetic, and longer hospitalization. Concurrent use of dermal substitutes and skin graft in a single stage has been previously reported in small series.

Background: Female urinary incontinence (UI) is common. Only scant information exists on the significance of UI for GPs' consultations.

Objectives: (i) To assess the significance of female UI for GPs and to look at barriers that could be detrimental to treatment by comparing GPs from Denmark and Germany, with different health systems and access to UI guidelines.

Importance: Indications for Furlow palatoplasty include primary repair of cleft palate as well as secondary repair, or secondary palatoplasty for treatment of velopharyngeal insufficiency. Speculation exists surrounding the benefit of secondary Furlow palatoplasty in cases of a previously well-reconstructed palate or a short but otherwise anatomically normal soft palate because it has been theorized that reorientation of a previously reconstructed or normal muscular levator sling should in fact worsen palatal motion.

Objective: To compare palatal motion following primary and secondary Furlow palatoplasty using footage from postoperative nasopharyngoscopy videos.

We report 3 cases of breast pyoderma gangrenosum in patients undergoing total mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. All three received systemic corticosteroid treatment, resulting in resolution of symptoms. As experience grew, early diagnosis in the third patient helped prosthesis salvage and timely return to the original course of reconstruction.

Background: The purpose of this study is to assess which personal characteristics and external factors are important contributors to eventual success.

Methods: The authors distributed a survey to all members of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons and asked responders to rate the importance of 10 preselected qualities in contributing to their personal success. Survey outcomes were analyzed across different demographic groups.

Objective: Our purpose was to provide a metric by which evaluation criteria are prioritized during resident selection. In this study, we assessed which residency applicant qualities are deemed important by members of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (AAPS).

Methods: A survey was distributed to all 580 AAPS members, and 295 responded to rate the importance of resident metrics, including measures of competency and personal characteristics.

The activity of DinB is governed by the formation of a multiprotein complex (MPC) with RecA and UmuD. We identified two highly conserved surface residues in DinB, cysteine 66 (C66) and proline 67 (P67). Mapping on the DinB tertiary structure suggests these are noncatalytic, and multiple-sequence alignments indicate that they are unique among DinB-like proteins.

The aim of this work is to investigate the application of fly ash adsorbent for removal of arsenite ions from dilute solution (100-1,000 ppm). Experiments were carried out using material from the "Turów" (Poland) brown-coal-burning power plant, which was wetted, then mixed and tumbled in a granulator to form spherical agglomerates. Measurements of arsenic adsorption from aqueous solution were carried out at room temperature and natural pH of fly ash agglomerates, in either a shaken flask or circulating column, to compare two different methods of contacting solution with adsorbent.

Gluteal varices are caused by different malformations (congenital or other disorders) within pelvic vessels. They are usually congenital, rarely acquired disorders. The rarity of incidence, diagnostic difficulties and sometimes ineffective methods of treatment made the authors of this article to present a case of 51-year-old patient with hemorrhoids with concomitant left gluteal varices caused by internal iliac artery-vein fistula.

Objective: To evaluate the voiding phase before and 1 year after surgery in women who underwent a tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure for stress incontinence.

Patients And Methods: The study comprised 45 women with genuine stress urinary incontinence. To assess the voiding phase, patients were asked if their voiding had changed after surgery, and objectively the uroflowmetry, residual urine measurements and pressure-flow data were compared.

Material And Methods: In 12 Wistar rats the gross and microscopic structure of haemolymph splenic nodes was assessed after splenectomy and the obtained results were compared with those in the control group.

Results: It was found that splenectomy leads to generalised morphological changes of the mentioned nodes, including, among other, their blanching, enlargement, filling with a greater number of morphotic elements and decreased count of erythrocytes and products of their disintegration. The splenic nodes demonstrated no regressive changes, typical of uniorgan nodes.

The aim of this article was to investigate septal branches of the right coronary artery in order to create both their typologies and to evaluate the usefulness of the vessels mentioned above for revascularisation procedures on the interventricular heart septum. The clinical studies were performed on 58 human hearts aged 28-80. Technical method of direct preparation, corrosive preparation and coronarographic picture assessment.

Platform independence is an important issue for a software designed to run across a hospital environment which is practically always heterogeneous one. This paper presents a simple miniPACS solution designed over an existing Intranet (Internet limited to a local area network). Platform independence is achieved with Java programming language which allows resulting code to be executed on virtually all machines.

Analysis software for medical image data tends to be expensive and usable only in a restricted environment. Therefore the aim of the current project was to implement a flexible framework for medical image processing and visualization which is portable among platforms and open to different data formats including DICOM 3.0.

The effect of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D supplement on glucose metabolism was evaluated in 12 women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). All women had an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) performed at inclusion in the study. Thereafter, each patient was instructed to continue their normal diet during the following 2 days, after which they received 2 micrograms/m2 Etalpha i.
