Constraining Earth's nonlinear mantle viscosity using plate-boundary resolving global inversions.

Variable viscosity in Earth's mantle exerts a fundamental control on mantle convection and plate tectonics, yet rigorously constraining the underlying parameters has remained a challenge. Inverse methods have not been sufficiently robust to handle the severe viscosity gradients and nonlinearities (arising from dislocation creep and plastic failure) while simultaneously resolving the megathrust and bending slabs globally. Using global plate motions as constraints, we overcome these challenges by combining a scalable nonlinear Stokes solver that resolves the key tectonic features with an adjoint-based Bayesian approach.

We describe the case of a 71-year-old woman who presented with obstructive jaundice and subhilar bile duct stenosis. MRI showed extensive cholecystolithiasis with an impacted bile stone in the cystic duct suggesting Mirizzi syndrome. Delayed enhancement of the thickened gallbladder wall suggested inflammation instead of carcinoma.

Unidirectional and bidirectional relationships between financial parenting and financial self-efficacy: Does student loan status matter?

Using longitudinal data and a cross-lagged, multigroup panel design, we examined unidirectional and bidirectional relationships between financial parenting and young adults' financial self-efficacy during the transition to adulthood. Because increasing college costs and student loan debt have changed the financial landscape of achieving higher education, we examined effects over time under 2 distinct conditions: a debt-financed college education and a debt-free college education. Analyses included the effects of 2 types of financial parenting: implicit role modeling and explicit communication.

Is insertion of a plastic stent better and safer than epinephrine injection in post sphincterotomy bleeding?

Objectives: Epinephrine injection is the therapy of first choice in post sphincterotomy bleeding (PSB), but may not be efficient in all cases and can cause postprocedural myocardial infarction. Plastic stent insertion (PSI) may be a better treatment. The aim of this retrospective study was to compare epinephrine injection with PSI with respect to efficacy and safety.

Aim: To investigate the occurrence of influenza virus infection in parotitis cases in a population of Santa Fe during 2017 and analyze clinical and epidemiological characteristics of the cases.

Methods: We studied patients with diagnosis of mumps without age restriction, who came for examination from week 26 to the network of clinicians forming the Sentinel Influenza Unit in Santa Fe.

In fact, most of the gemini compounds described in the literature have been prepared to be used as new synthetic vectors in gene transfection. Our group carried out an activity-structure study starting from the structure of the gemini [AG2-C], which is an effective in vitro transfection reagent.

Patient radiation dose in percutaneous biliary interventions: recommendations for DRLs on the basis of a multicentre study.

Objective: Percutaneous biliary interventions (PBIs) can be associated with a high patient radiation dose, which can be reduced when national diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) are kept in mind. The aim of this multicentre study was to investigate patient radiation exposure in different percutaneous biliary interventions, in order to recommend national DRLs.

Methods: A questionnaire asking for the dose area product (DAP) and the fluoroscopy time (FT) in different PBIs with ultrasound- or fluoroscopy-guided bile duct punctures was sent to 200 advanced care hospitals.

Approximately half of all pancreatic cysts are neoplastic, mainly comprising intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN), which can progress to invasive carcinoma. Current Fukuoka guidelines have limited sensitivity and specificity in predicting progression of asymptomatic pancreatic cysts. We present first results of the prospective ZYSTEUS biomarker study investigating (i) whether detection of driver mutations in IPMN by liquid biopsy is technically feasible, (ii) which compartment of IPMN is most suitable for analysis, and (iii) implications for clinical diagnostics.

Mindfulness has drawn increased attention in prevention programs targeting parents. Commonly, mindfulness-based programs are provided to reduce parental stress and improve child outcomes. Less often, researchers incorporate a mindfulness-informed approach, integrating a low dose of mindfulness exercises into an existing evidence-based parent training model.

Distribution of influenza virus types by age using case-based global surveillance data from twenty-nine countries, 1999-2014.

Background: Influenza disease burden varies by age and this has important public health implications. We compared the proportional distribution of different influenza virus types within age strata using surveillance data from twenty-nine countries during 1999-2014 (N=358,796 influenza cases).

Methods: For each virus, we calculated a Relative Illness Ratio (defined as the ratio of the percentage of cases in an age group to the percentage of the country population in the same age group) for young children (0-4 years), older children (5-17 years), young adults (18-39 years), older adults (40-64 years), and the elderly (65+ years).

Background: Prevention researchers have identified parental monitoring leading to parental knowledge to be a protective factor against adolescent substance use. In today's digital society, parental monitoring can occur using technology-mediated communication methods, such as text messaging, email, and social networking sites.

Objectives: The current study aimed to identify patterns, or clusters, of in-person and technology-mediated monitoring behaviors, and examine differences between the patterns (clusters) in adolescent substance use.

A Comparison of Three Online Recruitment Strategies for Engaging Parents.

Family scientists can face the challenge of effectively and efficiently recruiting normative samples of parents and families. Utilizing the Internet to recruit parents is a strategic way to find participants where they already are, enabling researchers to overcome many of the barriers to in-person recruitment. The present study was designed to compare three online recruitment strategies for recruiting parents: e-mail Listservs, Facebook, and Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk).

Involvement in bullying and sexual harassment in adolescence is associated with a variety of internalizing, externalizing, and health-risk behaviors. Yet, the two behaviors are often studied independently. The current study examined how bullying and sexual harassment co-occur and whether social connections protected youth from risk patterns.

Characteristics of seasonal influenza A and B in Latin America: Influenza surveillance data from ten countries.

Introduction: The increased availability of influenza surveillance data in recent years justifies an actual and more complete overview of influenza epidemiology in Latin America. We compared the influenza surveillance systems and assessed the epidemiology of influenza A and B, including the spatio-temporal patterns of influenza epidemics, in ten countries and sub-national regions in Latin America.

Background: Some evidence suggests parents are drawn to media-based interventions over face-to-face interventions, but little is known about the factors associated with parents' use of Internet-based or Internet-enhanced programs, especially among military families. Research is needed to understand characteristics of parents who may be most likely to use online components or attend face-to-face meetings in order to ensure maximum engagement.
