The chemical immobilization of cobalt(II) ions in a silica aerogel matrix enabled the synthesis of the first representative example of aerogel-based single-ion magnets. For the synthesis of the lyogels, methyl-trimethoxysilane and N-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl ethylenediamine were co-hydrolyzed, then the ethylenediamine groups that were immobilized on the silica matrix enabled the subsequent binding of cobalt(II) ions. Lyogels with various amounts of ethylenediamine moieties (0.

The study involved 76 children aged 0-2, who suffered perinatal hypoxic-ischemic central nervous system lesion. Psychomotor development of children has been studied, and the results that demonstrate the effectiveness of incorporating ceraxon in the complex therapy of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, have been obtained.

The authors provide evidence for the estimated density of an inducted current as a criterion for the hygienic standardization of exposure to infrequent electromagnetic pulses of nanosecond duration, which are generated by test discharge units. The adverse effect threshold for the pulse has been determined and its maximum accessible action of the units on the staff established. Reference guidelines for electromagnetic safety of workers engaged in the pulsed fields have been developed and approved.

Objective: To demonstrate spontaneous regression of large, clinically symptomatic optic pathway gliomas in patients with and without neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1).

Methods: Patient cases were collected through surveys at 2 consecutive annual meetings of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS) and through requests on the NANOSNET Internet listserv. Serial documentation of tumor signal and size, using magnetic resonance imaging in 11 patients and computed tomography in 2 patients, was used to evaluate clinically symptomatic optic pathway gliomas.

A boy with a large intracranial glioma of the optic tract and probable neurofibromatosis of the first type was observed for 8 years since the age of 7 years. A series of MR scans was made over this period. A notable decrease of the tumor size was seen on its signals on the MR scans.

In 13 patients with bronchial obstruction due to or enhanced by effort, the bronchodilatory effects of calcium antagonists (nifedipine and diltiazem) were studied and compared during the two-week treatment with each drug with a weekly interval. The appearance of bronchospasm at the 3d-5th minute after submaximal exercise (decrease of the volume of forced expiration during 1s by not less than 20% of the initial value) was regarded as a sign of asthma of effort. In 4 patients, bronchial obstruction in response to exercise was the only clinical sign of the disease, in 6 it was coupled with allergy, and in 3 patients, it aggravated the health status during exacerbation of bronchopulmonary infection.
