Article Synopsis
  • Persistent right umbilical vein (PRUV) is a vascular anomaly that can lead to various congenital defects in fetuses, and this study differentiates between its intrahepatic (I-PRUV, better prognosis) and extrahepatic variants (worse prognosis).
  • A multicenter study conducted from 2003 to 2013 analyzed 56 cases of I-PRUV against 4,050 singleton pregnancies without risk factors for congenital malformations.
  • The findings showed a significant association between I-PRUV and congenital malformations, particularly in the genitourinary system, with an overall malformation rate of 17.9%, while isolated I-PRUV did not indicate a worse prognosis.

Background And Objective: If we are capable of 1) determining the correlation, in young smokers, between carbon-monoxide levels in exhaled air (CO) and carboxihemoblobine (COHb) (cooximetrically determined) and 2) adapting the versions of the nosologic criteria DSM-IV for nicotine-depencence (DSM-IVa), Fagerström Test (FTNDa), and ARU-SMQ-9a Test to adolescents, then we may be able to establish how useful such tests are to measure nicotine-ependences in adolescents.
