The purpose of this article is to summarize pharmacotherapy related emergency medicine (EM) literature indexed in 2023. Articles were selected utilizing a modified Delphi approach. The table of contents from pre-determined journals were reviewed and independently evaluated via the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system by paired authors.

  • A study compared the efficiency of emergency medicine pharmacists (EMP) and charge nurses (CN) in reviewing positive microbiological test results for patients discharged from the ED, analyzing data from July to December 2012.
  • The results showed that while review times were similar, EMPs had a significantly lower miss rate for necessary interventions compared to CNs, highlighting the effectiveness of EMPs in enhancing antimicrobial stewardship within the ED.
