Background: Older adults have lived through extreme and stressful live events in Colombia, including during the armed conflict. Without adequate mental health resources in place, the aim of this study was to feasibility test a co-produced community-integrated intervention for older adults to improve their mental health and well-being in Turbo, Colombia.
Methods: Based on a systematic review and meta-analysis of community-based mental health interventions for older adults in LMICs, qualitative interviews with older adults and local stakeholders, as well as a mental health needs assessment survey of the local older adult population in Turbo, Colombia, we consulted older adults in the region to co-produce a community-based intervention.
Objective: To assess the impact of concomitant systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) on the clinicopathological manifestations of thrombotic antiphospholipid syndrome (APS).
Methods: This single-centre, retrospective study compared clinical and antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) data from 118 patients, 58 with SLE-associated APS (SLE-APS), and 60 with primary APS.
Results: Median follow-up was 13.
Chicken meat and its derivatives are easily alterable. They are a nutritionally healthy food, and their consumption has seen a remarkable increase worldwide in recent years. At the same time, consumer demand for the use of natural products to control microbial growth is increasing.

Introduction: We present a clinical case of a 45-year-old man with recurrent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and multiple hospital admissions due to severe infectious conditions. A newfound hypoalbuminemia raised the suspicion of a protein-losing condition, with an upper endoscopy revealing lesions at the D2 level compatible with coeliac sprue and HLA typing positive for both DQ-2 and DQ-8.
Methods: A gluten free diet was started and apixaban was suspended.
Objectives: This review addresses the question of what happens long-term to those systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients who develop gangrene. It also seeks to find common clinical and serological features, risk factors and triggers and how best to manage this challenging complication.
Methods: We reviewed 850 patients with SLE attending a UK tertiary referral center, followed up over 44 years, assessing their demographics, clinical and serological features, treatment in the acute phase, their long-term outcome and long-term management.
Background: The use of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in COVID-19 patients with hypoxaemia is still under debate. The aim was to evaluate the efficacy of NIPPV (CPAP, HELMET-CPAP or NIV) in COVID-19 patients treated in the dedicated COVID-19 Intermediate Care Unit of Coimbra Hospital and University Centre, Portugal, and to assess factors associated with NIPPV failure.
Methods: Patients admitted from December 1st 2020 to February 28th 2021, treated with NIPPV due to COVID-19 were included.
Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a rare systemic disease that develops with necrotizing granulomatous inflammation and is characterized by eosinophilia, asthma, and small vessel vasculitis. We report the case of a 74-year-old woman with a history of asthma, admitted to the Emergency Room with fever, headache, general malaise, weight loss and night sweats with one-month evolution, previously medicated with antibiotics without improvement. She presented with sinus palpation tenderness and lower leg bilateral sensitivity impairment.

Herein we describe a case of an 88-year-old woman with severe heart failure and several hospitalizations that year for the same reason, rapid re-admission after discharge and loss of walking ability. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) revealed severe pulmonary hypertension (PASP=69 mmHg) and right ventricular dysfunction without left structural or functional dysfunction.

The bacterial counts of the four strains together in untreated samples were higher (≈4 log CFU/mL) in cation-adjusted Mueller-Hinton medium than in stored MJ. LCE showed higher antimicrobial activity in MJ than in standard culture broth, but vanillin showed a higher effect in broth.

There is still a lack of consensus concerning the recommended etching concentration, application time and type of silane when bonding lithium disilicate-reinforced glass ceramics manufactured by CAD/CAM. The purpose of this study was thus to conduct an in vitro study which investigates the influence of hydrofluoric acid (HF) concentration, etching time and silane type on the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) of lithium disilicate to resin composites. Thirty-nine IPS e.

We aimed to investigate the association between blood pressure (BP) and tooth loss and the mediation effect of age. A cross-sectional study from a reference dental hospital was conducted from September 2017 to July 2020. Single measures of BP were taken via an automated sphygmomanometer device.

Novel bulk-fill composites with improved functionality are being introduced and, in light of the existing variety of finishing/polishing procedures, research of their surface properties is warranted. Sixty discs were prepared from bulk-fill composites (Filtek™ Bulk Fill Posterior Restorative and Fill-Up™) and incremental-fill Filtek™ Z250.

The influence of the initial pollutant concentration (1-5 mg dm), applied current density (2-15 mA cm), and the coupling of ultraviolet or ultrasound radiation have been studied using a titanium plate as anode. The results show that electrochemical oxidation is able to efficiently remove methyl red, and the process efficiency decreases with the initial pollutant concentration.

Lice from pinnipeds - sea lions, seals and walruses - are the only insects capable of surviving marine dives. Throughout their evolutionary history, they have adapted to tolerate hypoxia, high salinity, low temperature and, in particular, to tolerate conditions of high hydrostatic pressure. To understand the limits of the capacity of lice to survive during host deep dives, we conducted a series of controlled experiments in the laboratory.
