Kangtai capsule (KT) is one type of traditional Chinese medicine preparation derived from the proved recipe, which was frequently applied as an effective clinical treatment of IBS. However, there still lack the reasonable and all-round analytical approach and the scientific studies on its underlying mechanisms. Therefore, our study aimed to develop the novel method for evaluating its quality as well as to interpret the potential mechanisms.

The present study was performed to evaluate the antihypertensive effects of honokiol in vivo in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). The effects of honokiol were investigated by determination of the blood pressure, vascular reactivity, oxidative parameters, and histologic change in the aorta. Long-term administration of honokiol (400 mg/kg/d) to SHR decreased systolic blood pressure significantly.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to investigate how total saponins from Panax notoginseng (PNS) affect the melatonin receptor (MR) expression in the gastric mucosa of rats under stress.
  • - Stress was induced in rats using water-immersion restraint stress, and the expression levels of melatonin 1 (MT1) receptor mRNA were analyzed using techniques like reverse transcription and PCR.
  • - Results showed that stressed rats had lower MR levels compared to normal rats, but treatment with PNS increased MR expression, indicating a protective effect on the gastric mucosa, potentially by enhancing melatonin secretion or its receptor binding.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how the protein IKK-alpha is expressed in ulcerative colitis (UC) model rats and the impact of Kuijieling Decoction (KD) on their colonic mucosa.
  • Six groups of rats were created, including a control group and several treatment groups, and after 10 days of treatment, the colonic tissues were analyzed for IKK-alpha expression.
  • Results showed that IKK-alpha levels were higher in the UC model group and were significantly reduced in groups treated with KD, indicating that KD may help alleviate UC through its effect on IKK-alpha expression.

Objective: To study the effects of Jianpi Qingre Huayu Recipe in curing gastric ulcer and to preliminarily probe into its pathogenic mechanism.

Methods: Fifty patients with gastric ulcer of Pi -insufficiency and stasis-heat syndrome type were assigned to the treated group (30 patients) and the control group (20 patients). They were treated respectively with JQH and Ranitidine.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how Kuijieling Decoction (KD) affects the gene expression of Toll-like receptors (TLR) 2 and 4 in the colons of rats with ulcerative colitis (UC).
  • 48 rats were split into six groups, including a normal control group and various treatment groups, where gene expression was measured using RT-PCR.
  • Results showed that UC rats had higher TLR2/4 expressions compared to normal rats, but KD significantly reduced TLR2 and TLR4 levels in some treatment groups, suggesting KD could help manage UC by inhibiting these receptors.
