The aim of study was to investigate the relationship of anemia and neutropenia with ultrastructural abnormalities of erythroblasts and young neutrophils in bone marrow of patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Anemia parameters and peripheral neutrophil amount of 74 patients with MDS were measured by automatic hemocyte analyzer. According to Hb value and neutropenia degree, MDS patients were divided into 4 groups: normal, mild, middle and severe anemia or neutropenia.

Since the most important predictor of recurrence after cystectomy is pathologically positive nodes, our aim was to assess techniques that define this stage for the selection of patients for neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
Methods: We developed a gene expression model (GEM) to predict the pathological node status in primary tumour tissue from three independent cohorts of patients who were clinically node negative.

Mitochondrion plays the key functions in mammalian cells. It is believed that mitochondrion exerts the common biologic functions in many tissues, but also performs some specific functions correspondent with tissues where it is localized. To identify the tissue-specific mitochondrial proteins, we carried out a systematic survey towards mitochondrial proteins in the tissues of C57BL/6J mouse, such as liver, kidney and heart.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Tangzhiping Granule (TZPG) on blood lipids and free fatty acids (FFA) in rats with insulin resistant diabetes (IRD).
Methods: A blank control group consisted of randomly selected normal rats was set up. The remaining rats were established to IRD model by high-fat high-sugar diet feeding and streptozotocin injection.

The study was aimed to explore the stimulatory effect of tumor necrosis factorα (TNF-α) on differentiation and maturation of human peripheral blood mononuclear cell-derived dendritic cells (PBMNCDC). 30 ml of peripheral blood from healthy volunteers were collected, the PBMNC were isolated according to Thomas' method and were cultured with incubation of granulocyte/macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interleukin-4 (IL-4) for 8 day, and TNF-α was added on day 5. The expression of HLA-DR, CD83 and CD1a on surface of DC were detected by flow cytometry, the ability of DC to stimulate the proliferation of allogenic T cells was evaluated by MTT assay.

Their functions and mechanisms in pathogenesis are mostly unknown. Here, we identify a group of five P.

The aim of this study is to clarify the regulation and intracellular localisation of mimecan gene expression in the pituitary. With immunohistochemistry, we observed that mimecan protein was co-expressed with ACTH in pituitary corticotroph cells.

The objective of this study was to compare the effects between knocking-out Sam68 gene by homologous recombination method and silencing the gene by siRNA silencing technique in DT40 cell line. Gene targeting technique was used to isolate Sam68 gene-deleted chicken DT40 cells. Meanwhile, Sam68 gene silencing cells was obtained by using stable expression of siRNA plasmid pSilencer-Sam68.

Objective: To analyze the clinical and laboratory features of patients with congenital dyserythropoietic anemia type I (CDA-I), and improve the clinical diagnostic accuracy.
Methods: The clinical and hematological features of 5 patients diagnosed as CDA-I in our hospital between July 2002 and July 2007 were analyzed retrospectively, and the related literatures was reviewed.
Results: Five CDA-I patients, 1 male and 4 females, all had a long history of varied degree of chronic anemia.

The residence of spliceosomal introns within protein-coding genes can fluctuate over time, with genes gaining, losing or conserving introns in a complex process that is not entirely understood. One approach for studying intron evolution is to compare introns with respect to position and type within closely related genes. Here, we describe new, freely available software called Common Introns Within Orthologous Genes (CIWOG), available at http://ciwog.

Possible mechanisms underlying the anemia include lysis of parasitized and nonparasitized red cells as well as parasite product-mediated effects on erythropoiesis. The latter include suppression of erythropoiesis, dyserythropoiesis, and ineffective erythropoiesis.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFLeydig cell hypoplasia (LCH) is a rare form of male pseudohermaphroditism caused by inactivating mutations in the luteinizing hormone receptor gene (LHCGR). The majority of LHCGR mutations are located in the coding sequence, resulting in impairment of either LH/CG binding or signal transduction. We report a Chinese family with two siblings (46, XY and 46, XX) carrying a missense mutation (c.

Objective: To investigate the clinical and genetic characteristics of 7 patients from 5 families with 17a-hydroxylase/17,20 lyase deficiency (17OHD) and the CYP17A1 mutation in Chinese.
Methods: Clinical features and laboratory data were collected from 5 families with 17OHD. PCR direct sequencing was performed to screen the mutation of CYP17A1 gene of the patients.
Primary and metastatic carcinomas have a reactive stroma characterized by many myofibroblasts. These cells have also been documented in nonepithelial malignancies, such as sarcomas, malignant melanoma, and lymphoid tumors but in generally far fewer numbers. In non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and leukemia, myofibroblasts are rather rarely documented.

The ultrastructural characteristics of blasts of the monocytic series were analyzed in 72 M5 patients by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), in terms of their content of typical monoblasts, atypical monoblasts, atypical promonocytes, and typical promonocytes in bone-marrow aspirates. Four kinds of monocytic blasts were identified by cell size and shape, nuclear profile, nucleocytoplasmic ratio, heterochromatin content, nucleolus, granules, vesicles, and Golgi apparatus.
