Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the clinical features of Darier disease, a rare genetic disorder, involving 76 patients through structured interviews, physical exams, and medical record reviews.
  • Most lesions were found on the hands and fingernails, with a unique "wet hand sign" observed, indicating increased visibility after water exposure; 43% of patients also presented with oral lesions.
  • Severe cases showed a significantly higher risk of genital lesions, emphasizing the importance of documenting specific areas like the hands and mucosal regions for accurate diagnosis.

Background: Darier disease (DD) is a rare genodermatosis caused by heterozygous mutations in the ATP2A2 gene. It has been associated with neuropsychiatric manifestations.

Objectives: To investigate the genetic basis of Israeli patients with DD, and its association with the neuropsychiatric phenotype.

Background: Endothelial function (EF) impairment is one of the first events in the process of atherosclerosis, which is known to be associated with psoriasis. Nevertheless, the effect of antipsoriatic treatments, some of them with atherogenic risks, on cardiovascular morbidity and EF is still unclear.

Objectives: To investigate the effect of short-term antipsoriatic treatments on EF values as a potential marker of their effect on cardiovascular morbidity.

Combination therapy has become important in treating psoriasis, using synergism between different mechanisms to maximize efficacy and minimize toxicity. Little has been published on the combination of cyclosporine and anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α agents. In this study, a retrospective chart review was made of the effects of this combination therapy in 10 patients with recalcitrant psoriasis.

Background: The co-occurrence of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH; disorder characterized by proliferation of Langerhans cells) and Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD; histiocytic entity that is one of the non-Langerhans cell diseases) is extremely rare and raises several questions regarding the nature of the diseases.

Methods: We describe a 10-year-old boy who presented with a 3-month history of right scalp swelling. Clinical, pathological, and imaging evaluation disclosed multiple LCH of bone and cutaneous RDD.

Objective: To determine the quality of life (QOL) and self-esteem of children with infantile haemangiomas using objective measures.

Design: Twenty-one children, 5-8 years old, with a diagnosis of head or neck haemangioma measuring 2 cm or more, were compared with 22 children with no history of haemangioma.

Setting: A tertiary medical centre in the north of Israel.

Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic papulosquamous cutaneous disease. The etiology is unknown. Several biochemical and immunological processes, which appear in patients with genetic predisposition, lead to enhanced proliferation of epidermal cells, and inflammation of the dermis.

Background: There are no established data on the prevalence of bacterial colonization of lesional skin, nares and perineum in Darier's disease (DD), or its contribution to the clinical manifestations of the disease.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of bacterial colonization of lesional skin and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) in nares and perineum in 75 patients with DD, the association of these parameters with disease and patient characteristics, and the features of the bacterial skin infection in this group.

Background: Darier's disease (DD) is an autosomal dominant skin disorder characterized by persistent eruption of hyperkeratotic papules. The effect of DD on quality of life (QOL) has been assessed in only one study, which found no correlation between the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score and clinical severity of the disease. The correlation between health-related quality of life (HRQL) and other diseases and patient characteristics has not been studied.

Background: The association between psoriasis and pregnancy outcomes has not been adequately examined, although psoriasis onset is common in the reproductive period.

Objective: To evaluate the association between moderate-to-severe psoriasis and pregnancy complications.

Methods: A retrospective, matched cohort study of 68 deliveries in 35 women with moderate-to-severe psoriasis compared to 237 deliveries in 236 women without psoriasis randomly selected after matching for age, parity and gestational age.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) has been associated with sensory hypersensitivity in children.

Objective: To examine the sensory profile of adults with AD using a standardized questionnaire that measures sensory processing and related behaviours in daily living.

Methods: Thirty-two patients aged 18-53 years with AD and 32 healthy, sex- and age-matched control subjects completed the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile (AASP).

This study aims to investigate the impact of sensory hypersensitivity in children with atopic dermatitis (AD) and to evaluate a possible relationship between sensory hypersensitivity, sleep quality and disease severity in AD. Fifty-seven AD patients and 37 healthy children, aged 3-10 years, participated in this study. Disease severity was assessed using the Severity Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) Score.

Hyperuricemia is present in approximately 5% of the population. The vast majority is asymptomatic and at no clinical risk. Allopurinol, an analog of hypoxanthine, has been widely used in clinical practice for more than 30 years for the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout.

Background: The increasing prevalence of atopic dermatitis (AD) combined with the limited efficacy of current therapies emphasizes the need to improve care quality for patients with AD. This study aims to characterize the sensory profile of children with AD as expressed in daily living.

Methods: In all, 53 patients with AD and 61 healthy children, aged 3 to 10 years, participated in this study.

Background: Absence of a pathognomonic clinical picture and variable histologic findings often delay diagnosis of nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM)-induced cutaneous infections, and antimicrobial therapy varies.

Objective: We sought to investigate the clinical, microbiologic, and pathological findings of cutaneous NTM infections and response to different treatments.

Methods: Records of patients with NTM infections of the skin confirmed by positive cultures or histologic findings were reviewed.

Background: Few controlled studies have compared nail disorders in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) and haemodialysis (HD)-dependent individuals with a healthy population.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of nail disorders in patients with CRF and patients undergoing HD treatment with a healthy population, and evaluate the relationship between nail changes and various demographic, medical and laboratory parameters in these groups.

Methods: In this case-control study we recruited 73 patients affected with CRF, 77 patients undergoing regular HD and 77 healthy individuals.
