Out of 37 patients with verified neurinoma of the vestibulocochlear nerve 11 had essentially normal hearing and showed significant disorders of BERA (of the scissors type). This proved high sensitivity of computer audiometry (CA) applied to examine patients suspected for retrocochlear lesions. It is recommended to use CA when examining patients complaining of unilateral hearing impairment in order to rule out neurinoma of the 8th cranial nerve, especially at its early stage.

The typological features of short-term acoustic adaptation (STAA) and its applicability for evaluating the hearing resistance to noise effects were investigated in those working in a noisy environment. The experiments were carried out on 29 subjects with normal hearing and 46 patients with neurosensory hypoacusis, including 25 patients with occupational hypoacusis. The STAA magnitude was evaluated as the difference between the hearing threshold of the 20 msec signal paired with a preceding adapting signal or without it.

A device-trainer intended for individual exercises with patients suffering from an intensively pronounced hearing defect is described. The device permits it to reproduce sound signals amplifying them up to 130 dB in the mono-binaural and also in the stereophonic modes and provides for a wide bandwidth. The originals can be presented by using the auditory and vibro-tactile reception.
