Bladder-Adherent Primary Appendiceal Carcinoma Masquerading as a Carpeting Rectal Lesion Detected by a Fecal Immunochemical Test: A Case Report.

Introduction: Primary appendiceal carcinoma is rare and comprises up to 1% of all colorectal malignancies. Its invasion into adjacent organs, such as the bladder and rectum, especially as a presenting characteristic, is even less common.

Case Presentation: A 75-year-old asymptomatic male tested positive on a screening fecal immunochemical test (FIT).

Endophytic to total tumour volume ratio: An added variable to patients with T1b/T2 renal tumours undergoing partial nephrectomy.

Introduction: Partial nephrectomy is the standard of care to patients with small renal masses. It is still encouraged to larger tumours whenever feasible. The aim of this study is to look for the endophytic to total tumour volume ratio as an added variable to study the complexity of partial nephrectomy to patients with T1b/ T2 renal tumours.

Partial Nephrectomy for T1b/T2 Renal Mass: An Added Shift from Radical Nephrectomy.

The aim of our study was to show our short-term experience in managing large renal masses (cT1b/T2) through partial nephrectomy (PN) over the last 3 years. Retrospective data collection for all patients managed by PN for renal masses larger than 4 cm over the last 3 years. Epidemiological data were collected.

Physical fitness and its association with fatigue in patients with low-grade glioma.

Purpose: To evaluate physical fitness and its association with fatigue in patients with low grade glioma (LGG).

Methods: Cross-sectional study. Muscle strength was measured with a digital dynamometer, cardiorespiratory fitness (peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak), maximal workload (MWL)) by cardiopulmonary-exercise-testing, and fatigue by using the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory.

Pulsed fluoroscopy in retrograde urethrograms.

Objectives: Retrograde urethrogram (RUG) is one of the corner stones for the reconstructive urologist. With hundreds of RUGs being performed yearly in busy reconstructive center, the concern for radiation exposure to the patient and the medical personnel becomes important. We propose the use of pulsed fluoroscopy to decrease the radiation exposure for patient and medical personnel.

Artificial intelligence in assessment of hepatocellular carcinoma treatment response.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to shape the practice of radiology, with imaging of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) being of no exception. This article prepared by members of the LI-RADS Treatment Response (TR LI-RADS) work group and associates, presents recent trends in the utility of AI applications for the volumetric evaluation and assessment of HCC treatment response. Various topics including radiomics, prognostic imaging findings, and locoregional therapy (LRT) specific issues will be discussed in the framework of HCC treatment response classification systems with focus on the Liver Reporting and Data System treatment response algorithm (LI-RADS TRA).

Bilateral Single-Stage Nephrectomy for Synchronous Bilateral Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Bilateral synchronous renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is uncommonly encountered. Debate exists among urologists in managing these cases in a single surgery versus staged surgeries. We aim to report our experience in managing encountered cases using single-stage surgeries.

Methods: This retrospective study was research ethics board approved. Untreated pancreas adenocarcinomas were segmented on CT in 128 consecutive patients.

Effect of COVID-19 on computed tomography usage and critical test results in the emergency department: an observational study.

Background: The effect of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on new or unexpected radiologic findings in the emergency department (ED) is unclear. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the number of computed tomography (CT) critical test results in the ED.

Methods: We performed a retrospective observational study of ED CT usage at 4 Ontario hospitals (1 urban academic, 1 northern academic, 1 urban community and 1 rural community) over 1 month during the COVID-19 pandemic (April 2020) and over the same month 1 year earlier (April 2019; before the pandemic).

Larvae of most Pergidae and Argidae (Symphyta: Tenthredinoidea) species contain toxic peptides such as pergidin and lophyrotomin. Here, larval hemolymph and organs of the pergid Lophyrotoma zonalis and the argid Arge pagana were analysed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Fuzzy Model for Quantitative Assessment of Environmental Start-up Projects in Air Transport.

The purpose of this paper is to develop an applied fuzzy model of information technology to obtain quantitative estimates of environmental start-up projects in air transport. The developed model will become a useful tool for venture funds, business angels, or crowdfunding platforms for the development of innovative air transport businesses. Obtaining a quantitative estimate of the environmental start-up projects will increase the sustainability of the decision making on the security of financing of such projects by investors.

Serum Chromium Levels Are Higher in Peritoneal Dialysis than in Hemodialysis Patients.

An elevation in serum chromium levels in individuals treated with renal replacement therapy has been previously described, but chromium levels have not been systematically studied in patients treated with different dialysis modalities. The aim of this study was to compare serum chromium levels in patients treated with chronic peritoneal dialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD).We studied 169 chronic dialysis patients in a single medical center, of which 148 were treated with HD and 21 with PD.

Sexual and reproductive health among young people, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

We aimed to analyze the geographic distribution, the structure of healthcare services and the human resources of all units of the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS - the Unified Health System) that provide sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services to the adolescent population in the second largest city in Brazil. We conducted a cross-sectional study with geographical mapping and data collection through a questionnaire applied in person with coordinators of the units or their representatives in 147 outpatient clinics in Rio de Janeiro that have SSR services. We found that in over 90% of the units, adolescents are treated together with the adult population, without particular shifts or rooms for this age group.

A mutant β-glucosidase increases the rate of the cellulose enzymatic hydrolysis.

The enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose and lignocellulosic materials is marked by a rate decrease along the reaction time. Cellobiohydrolase slow dissociation from the substrate and its inhibition by the cellobiose produced are relevant factors associated to the rate decrease. In that sense, addition of β-glucosidases to the enzyme cocktails employed in cellulose enzymatic hydrolysis not only produces glucose as final product but also reduces the cellobiohydrolase inhibition by cellobiose.

Objective: The objective of our study was to evaluate whole-lesion quantitative apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) for the prediction of Gleason score (GS) upgrading in 3 + 4 = 7 prostate cancer.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-four patients with GS 3 + 4 = 7 prostate cancer diagnosed at systematic transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided biopsy underwent 3-T MRI and radical prostatectomy (RP) between 2012 and 2014. A blinded radiologist contoured dominant tumors on ADC maps using histopathologic correlation.

Hyperoxia increases arterial oxygen pressure during exercise in type 2 diabetes patients: a feasibility study.

Objective: The study investigated the feasibility and potential outcome measures during acute hyperoxia in type 2 diabetes patients (DM2).

Methods: Eleven DM2 patients (7 men and 4 women) were included in the study. The patients cycled (30 min at 20% Wmax) whilst breathing three different supplemental oxygen flows (SOF, 5, 10, 15 L min(-1)).

Physical fitness and physical activity in fatigued and non-fatigued inflammatory bowel disease patients.

Objective: To assess physical fitness and physical activity in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients and whether fatigue is associated with impaired physical fitness and impaired physical activity.

Materials And Methods: Ten patients with quiescent IBD and fatigue (fatigue group [FG]) based on the Checklist Individual Strength-Fatigue score of ≥35 were matched for age (±5 years) and sex with a non-fatigue group (NFG) with IBD. Physical fitness was measured with a cyclo-ergometric-based maximal exercise test, a submaximal 6-min walk test, and a dynamometer test to quantify the isokinetic muscle strength of the knee extensors and flexors.

Metabolic PET/CT-guided lung lesion biopsies: impact on diagnostic accuracy and rate of sampling error.

Unlabelled: CT-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of lung lesions is subject to sampling errors. The current study assessed whether information provided by (18)F-FDG PET/CT will decrease the false-negative (FN) rate and thus improve the accuracy of CT-guided FNA.

Methods: Data from 311 consecutive patients with lung nodules who underwent (18)F-FDG PET/CT and CT-guided FNA within an interval of less than 30 d were retrospectively assessed.
