Purpose: This was a phase 1 trial with the primary objective of identifying the most compressed dose schedule (DS) tolerable using risk volume-adapted, hypofractionated, postoperative radiation therapy (PORT) for biochemically recurrent prostate cancer. Secondary endpoints included biochemical progression-free survival and quality of life (QOL).

Methods And Materials: Patients were treated with 1 of 3 isoeffective DSs (DS1: 20 fractions, DS2: 15 fractions, and DS3: 10 fractions) that escalated the dose to the imaging-defined local recurrence (73 Gy equivalent dose in 2Gy fractions) and de-escalated the dose to the remainder of the prostate bed (48 Gy equivalent dose in 2Gy fractions).

The authors report the surgical management and outcomes of neurotrophic keratopathy in two patients with Stüve-Weidemann syndrome who underwent single-stage bilateral corneal neurotization. Both patients experienced improvement in corneal sensation based on Cochet-Bonnet aesthesiometry measurements or cotton tip testing in addition to clinical improvement in ocular surface health. .

Purpose: This trial examined if patients with ≤5 sites of oligoprogression benefit from the addition of SABR to standard of care (SOC) systemic therapy.

Methods And Materials: We enrolled patients with 1 to 5 metastases progressing on systemic therapy, and after stratifying by type of systemic therapy (cytotoxic vs noncytotoxic), randomized 1:2 between continued SOC treatment versus SABR to all progressing lesions plus SOC. The trial was initially limited to non-small cell lung cancer but was expanded to include all nonhematologic malignancies to meet accrual goals.

The effects of immunodeficiency associated with chronic HIV infection on COVID-19 disease and viral persistence have not been directly addressed in a controlled setting. In this pilot study, we exposed two pigtail macaques (PTMs) chronically infected with SIVmac239, exhibiting from very low to no CD4 T cells across all compartments, to SARS-CoV-2. Geothermal features, such as hot springs and mud volcanoes, host diverse microbial life, including many extremophile organisms. The physicochemical parameters of the geothermal feature, such as temperature, pH, and heavy metal concentration, can influence the alpha and beta diversity of microbial life in these environments, as can spatiotemporal differences between sites and sampling. In this study, water and sediment samples were collected and analyzed from eight geothermal sites at Yellowstone National Park, including six hot springs, a mud volcano, and an acidic lake within the same week in July 2019, and these geothermal sites varied greatly in their temperature, pH, and chemical composition.

Gene therapy holds promise as a transformative approach in the treatment landscape of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and diabetic macular edema (DME), aiming to address the challenges of frequent intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections. Group A streptococcal strains potentially acquire new M protein gene types through genetic recombination (emm switching). To detect such variants, we screened 12,596 invasive GAS genomes for strains of differing emm types that shared the same multilocus sequence type (ST). Through this screening we detected a variant consisting of 16 serum opacity factor (SOF)-positive, emm pattern E, emm82 isolates that were ST36, previously only associated with SOF-negative, emm pattern A, emm12.
