Background: In breast cancer, adjuvant chemotherapy is often prescribed as a precautionary measure and sometimes unnecessarily. A diagnostic test based on estimating the risk of recurrence at 10 years for women with breast cancer in early stage has been developed (Oncotype DX(®)).
Method: A Markov's model was adapted to evaluate the long-term effect of this test in terms of costs and life-years gained in French clinical practice for patients with ER+, HER2-, node-negative early-stage breast cancer.
Objectives: Vulvar cancer is usually treated with vulvectomy and bilateral groin lymphadenectomy, which result in serious morbidities while only 30% of patients have positive nodes. The sentinel node technique has good sensitivity and specificity for detecting lymph node involvement while minimizing postoperative morbidity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the specific and overall survival impact of sentinel lymph node procedure versus inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy in patients with vulvar cancer.

Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Setting: Not applicable.
Objective: Surgical management of advanced ovarian cancer often requires low modified posterior pelvic exenteration (MPE) to achieved complete resection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the morbidity of MPE at the time of primary cytoreductive surgery (PCS) and interval cytoreductive surgery (ICS) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
Materials And Methods: From 2001 to 2009, 63 patients underwent MPE for advanced ovarian cancer.
Objective: Our objective was to develop a nomogram based on pathological hysterectomy characteristics to provide a more individualized and accurate estimation of lymph node metastasis in endometrial cancer.
Study Design: Data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database for 18,294 patients who underwent hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy were analyzed. A multivariate logistic regression analysis of selected prognostic features was performed, and a nomogram to predict lymph node metastasis was constructed.
Study Question: How is the expression of nectins and nectin-like molecules (Necls) detected by immunostaining altered by endometriosis?
Summary Answer: Our results suggest that Nectin-1, -3, -4 and Necl-2 may contribute to the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Immunostaining of nectins and Necls varies according to the anatomical location of endometriosis.
What Is Known And What This Paper Adds: Nectin and Necl molecules are immunoglobulin-like cell adhesion molecules involved in apoptosis, cell proliferation and in metastases.
We examined whether baseline Ki67 expression in estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) primary breast cancer correlates with clinical benefit and time to progression on first-line endocrine therapy and survival in metastatic disease. Ki67 values and outcome information were retrieved from a prospectively maintained clinical database and validated against the medical records; 241 patients with metastatic breast cancer were included--who had ER+ primary cancer with known Ki67 expression level--and received first-line endocrine therapy for metastatic disease. Patients were assigned to low (<10 %), intermediate (10-25 %), or high (>25 %) Ki67 expression groups.

The present study was designed to estimate resource use and costs associated with the current standard of care for adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer.
Methods: Costs and resource use were assessed by retrospective analysis of medical records at a single comprehensive cancer care center, Hôpital Tenon, Paris, France.
Background: For ductal intraepithelial neoplasia, grade 1B, studies that predict breast cancer risk after an 11-gauge vacuum-assisted breast biopsy have yielded contradictory results. In order to identify a predictive model of breast cancer risk, we assessed the underestimation rate according to radiological and clinical findings.
Patients And Methods: Our study involved 212 patients.
Background: Little evidence of the impact of immunohistochemical analysis (IHC) on the indications for adjuvant therapies is available. This study determined the modification rate of adjuvant chemotherapy and lymph node area radiotherapy using IHC and its impact on survival.
Patients And Methods: Between 2001 and 2005, 416 patients underwent surgery for invasive breast cancer with sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy.
Background: The role of DNA ploidy in genomic instability of cancer cells and prognosis has been described in a number of studies. The role of the centrosome in cell cycle has also been reported.
Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate the correlation between the centrosome and DNA ploidy in breast cancer in a search for a cytologic predictive and prognostic marker.
Several genes might explain BRCA1/2 negative breast and ovarian family cases. Deleterious mutations in few genes involved in the Fanconi complex are responsible for Fanconi anemia at the homozygous state and breast cancer (BC) susceptibility at the heterozygous state (BRCA2, PALB2, BRIP1). RAD51C plays an important role in the double-strand break repair pathway and a biallelic missense mutation in the RAD51C gene was found in a Fanconi anemia-like disorder.

Given the trend for women to delay childbearing, many of them will not fulfill their parental project at diagnosis of a potential breast cancer. Thus, planning pregnancies in young patients with a history of breast cancer is increasingly becoming a common situation.

We compared the characteristics of PABCs and breast cancers not associated with pregnancy (non-PABCs) in terms of their loco-regional invasion and histological phenotype. We conducted a retrospective chart review on women less than 43 years of age treated for breast cancer from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2010.

However, this has only been proven in trophoblasts and HLA-G transfectants. Here, we document for the first time the existence of HLA-G dimers in cancer.

Our goal was to determine the diagnostic accuracy (DA) of intraoperative examination in diagnosing metastatic pelvic SLNs.
Methods: This was a retrospective study, including 125 patients with early stage endometrial cancer.
Objective: We sought to evaluate whether patients with endometrial cancer in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database who underwent lymphadenectomy demonstrate improved survival.
Study Design: The study population comprised 50,969 patients. The 3-year cause-specific survival was tested by using propensity score matching (PSM) analysis.
Objective: To describe the trends in the rate, treatment, and survival of late-stage vulvar carcinomas (LSVCs) over a 20-year period in the United States.
Methods: Demographic, pathologic, treatment, and survival data were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results registry between 1988 and 2007. Trends concerning the rate of LSVC (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics [FIGO] stages III and IV), its management, and outcome were studied.
Objective: To compare the prognostic values of the 1988 and 2009 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) classifications for endometrial cancer.
Materials And Methods: From 1990 to 2008, patients undergoing surgery for endometrial cancer were extracted from the French prospective "Etude Epidémiologique auprès de femmes de l'Education Nationale" cohort study. Inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) an available detailed histologic report of primary surgical procedure and (2) available cause and date of death.
Colorectal resection for endometriosis is a major operation exposing patients to the risk of severe digestive and urological complications. The objective of this review is to evaluate surgery-related urological morbidity of which little is known to date. We searched MEDLINE for articles published on colorectal resection for endometriosis between 1998 and March 2011 using the following terms: "bowel", "rectal", "colorectal", "rectovaginal", "rectosigmoid", "resection" and "endometriosis".

Methods: Preoperative and postoperative anorectal symptoms, colorectal-anal distress inventory (CRADI) and colorectal-anal impact questionnaire (CRAIQ) scores were prospectively compared from 90 consecutive women undergoing laparoscopic sacrocolpoperineopexy.
Results: After a median follow-up of 30.
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) are involved in tumor invasion, but their prognostic significance is still under discussion. We set out to analyze the epithelial and stromal expression of MMP-2, MMP-7, MMP-9, MT1-MMP, TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 in advanced epithelial ovarian cancers and to assess their prognostic value. A tissue microarray of malignant ovarian tumors from 69 patients was constructed.
